JERUSALEM (VINnews)-Israeli forces demolished a major Hezbollah underground tunnel in the southern Lebanon village of Majdal Zoun, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Sunday.

The tunnel, which extended approximately 200 meters in length and reached depths of more than 25 meters beneath the village, was used by the Iran-backed terror group to assemble, store and launch Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicles, the military said.

In a joint statement, Netanyahu and Katz said Israel notified the United States and the American representative in Lebanon prior to carrying out the demolition.

The operation comes amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, with Hezbollah continuing attacks on northern Israel in support of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials have repeatedly vowed to dismantle Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in southern Lebanon to secure Israel’s northern communities.

No immediate comment was available from Hezbollah or Lebanese officials.
