CEASEFIRE DIPLOMACY: Iran Talks Resume Alongside Israel-Lebanon Negotiations

Jun 29, 2026·2 min read

President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran has requested a meeting with the United States, saying the talks will take place Tuesday in Doha, Qatar.

The announcement follows days of heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, U.S. and Iranian technical teams are expected to meet in Doha to discuss implementation of the interim agreement reached on June 17 after a series of military exchanges between the two countries.

According to Axios, both sides agreed to halt further attacks and resume negotiations, with the main focus on resolving disputes over the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring freedom of navigation. A senior U.S. official said the goal is to prevent further escalation and get implementation of the agreement back on track.

At the same time, a U.S. State Department official confirmed that Israeli and Lebanese delegations will also resume U.S.-mediated talks on Tuesday. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time as both sides continue working toward a broader agreement.

The renewed negotiations come just days after Israel, Lebanon, and the United States signed a framework agreement aimed at ending hostilities along the northern border and opening the door to broader peace and security talks. Israel has said the agreement is intended to strengthen both countries while weakening Iran and Hezbollah.

Despite the progress, Lebanon continues to insist on a full Israeli withdrawal from its territory. Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said Beirut’s priorities remain the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces along the border and restoring full state sovereignty, while also moving forward with plans to restrict weapons to the state as part of implementing the new security arrangements.

Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos welcomed the framework agreement, expressing hope that it will improve stability in Lebanon and strengthen its sovereignty, while reaffirming Cyprus’ support for Beirut.
