Rockland Braces For Major Heat Wave As Temperatures Could Top 100 Degrees

Rockland County is bracing for a major heat wave, with the most dangerous temperatures expected toward the end of the week.

While the Hudson Valley is already under hot and humid conditions, forecasters say the heat will intensify over the coming days, with the heat index expected to make it feel well over 100 degrees at times.

Rockland County officials are urging residents to take the heat seriously and be aware of the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Heat exhaustion can include dizziness, heavy sweating, clammy skin, a weak pulse, nausea, vomiting, and muscle cramps. Heat stroke is more serious and can include a throbbing headache, lack of sweating, hot and dry skin, a rapid strong pulse, vomiting, or loss of consciousness.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Division reminded residents that anyone who suspects heat stroke should call 911 immediately.

Officials also reminded residents that when calling 911, dispatchers need the caller’s exact location, especially if they are driving, walking, hiking, or camping. Callers should stay on the line so trained emergency dispatchers can provide instructions until help arrives.
