Report: Harris Reaches Out to Mamdani, Pro-Palestinian Activists as 2028 Speculation Grows
WASHINGTON (VINnews) — Former Vice President Kamala Harris has privately reached out to Zohran Mamdani and held a series of closed-door meetings with progressive Democrats, including pro-Palestinian activists, as she weighs a possible 2028 presidential campaign, according to Axios.
Axios reported that Harris recently spoke by phone with Mamdani about the future of the Democratic Party and has met privately with leaders associated with the “Uncommitted” movement, which sharply criticized the Biden administration’s support for Israel during the war in Gaza.
The outreach is seen as an effort to strengthen Harris’ standing with the Democratic Party’s progressive wing after many left-leaning activists expressed dissatisfaction with her 2024 campaign and its alignment with the Biden administration’s policies toward Israel.
According to the report, Harris has also sought advice from Democratic figures on a range of issues beyond the Middle East, including artificial intelligence, China and Venezuela, as she considers her political future.
While Harris remains among the Democrats viewed as a potential 2028 presidential contender, Axios reported that some progressives, centrists and major donors remain uncertain whether she can unite the party’s competing factions.
