Man With Knife, Bat Removed From 770 Eastern Parkway; No Broader Threat Seen
CROWN HEIGHTS (VINnews)-An individual armed with a knife and a baseball bat was removed from Chabad Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway on Wednesday and arrested, officials said.
The man, who was wearing a yarmulke, is well known to both the New York Police Department and 770 security personnel and has a history of visiting the site, according to Chabad political liaison Yaacov Behrman.
“I can confirm that an individual was removed from the Chabad Headquarters synagogue today,” Behrman said. “He is well known to the Police Department and to 770 Security, and he does not appear to be stable.”
Behrman added that the man had been to the location multiple times in the past. Chabad management had previously filed an affidavit with the NYPD stating that he is not permitted on the property.
“He was arrested today, and at this time, this does not appear to be related to any broader threat or security concern,” Behrman said.
No further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances of his arrest were immediately released.
