Elie Wiesel’s Son Recalls Father’s Legacy on 10th Yahrzeit, Warns Against DSA ‘Lies and Hatred’

Jul 2, 2026·1 min read

NEW YORK (VINnews)-Elisha Wiesel, the son of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, marked the 10th anniversary of his father’s passing Thursday, thanking CNN’s Wolf Blitzer for hosting him on “The Situation Room” to reflect on the Holocaust survivor’s enduring message of hope and moral clarity.

Elie Wiesel died on July 2, 2016. During the CNN appearance, Elisha Wiesel highlighted his father’s lifelong commitment to combating hatred and indifference, directing a pointed message toward young people drawn to the Democratic Socialists of America and what he described as its “lies and hatred.”

“There is a way back,” Wiesel said. “It’s never too late.”

The elder Wiesel, a Romanian-born Auschwitz survivor, author and human rights advocate, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his efforts to promote peace and reconciliation. His book “Night,” a harrowing account of his experiences in Nazi concentration camps, remains a seminal work in Holocaust literature and education.

Elisha Wiesel has continued his father’s legacy through public speaking, advocacy and efforts to educate new generations about the dangers of antisemitism and extremism. VINnews extends condolences to the Wiesel family on this solemn anniversary and recognizes Elie Wiesel’s profound impact on Jewish memory and moral conscience.
