US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has asked to meet with him at the White House and estimated that the visit could take place as early as next week, Axios reported.
“We get along great,” Trump told Axios. “He [Netanyahu] knows who the boss is,” he added
If the meeting takes place, it will be the first meeting between the two leaders since their meeting in the White House Situation Room in February, when Netanyahu presented his war plan against Iran.
However, a senior Israeli official clarified that no final date has yet been set for the visit and said that next week may be too soon because of Trump’s planned trip to Turkey. “The visit may take place the following week,” the official said.
The Prime Minister’s Office said that Netanyahu called Trump on Friday to congratulate him on “the occasion of the 250th Independence Day of the United States of America.”
“The Prime Minister said in the conversation that the U.S. is a guarantor of global freedom, and Israel highly appreciates the close bond between the two nations.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump agreed to meet in the U.S. in the near future.”
