Walmart, Sam’s Club Cut Prices on Summer Staples; Trump Credits Administration

Jul 6, 2026·2 min read

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (VINnews) — Walmart and Sam’s Club announced Monday they are lowering prices on thousands of items this summer, including groceries, grilling supplies, beverages and household essentials.

The seasonal promotion includes Walmart’s “Rollback” discounts and reduced prices at Sam’s Club on products commonly purchased for barbecues, vacations and other summer activities.

Among the discounted items at Walmart are ground beef, sweet corn, cherries, ice cream, snack foods, paper plates and multipacks of soft drinks. Sam’s Club said it has lowered prices on more than 250 items, including chicken wings, hot dogs, ground beef and pork ribs, while continuing to offer discounted fuel for members.

Julie Barber, Walmart U.S.’s executive vice president and chief merchant, said the retailer is expanding its investment in lower prices on products customers purchase most during the summer months.

President Donald Trump praised the announcement in a social media post, claiming Walmart’s price reductions came at the request of his administration as part of events marking the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Trump highlighted the retailer’s planned reduction in the price of a pound of ground beef and urged other retailers to follow Walmart’s example.

Trump also credited his administration for declining prices on fuel, eggs and prescription drugs while criticizing the inflation that occurred under former President Joe Biden. Walmart did not attribute its summer pricing initiative to any request from the administration in its announcement.

The offers are available at participating Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations nationwide, as well as through the companies’ websites and mobile apps, with pickup and delivery available in many markets.
