TRUMP VS. TEHRAN: Iran Threatens To Halt Nuclear Talks After Trump’s Strike Warning

Jul 7, 2026·1 min read

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned overnight that Tehran will not begin negotiations on a final nuclear agreement with the United States “if threats continue,” following President Donald Trump’s renewed warning that the U.S. could strike Iran’s critical infrastructure.

The warning came after Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday that Iran must either reach an agreement or face overwhelming military action.

“We’re going to make a deal or we’re going to finish the job, okay. And it won’t be tough to finish the job. I’d rather make a deal, because I don’t want to affect 91 million people. We can knock down their bridges in one hour. We can knock out their energy supply. All of those big plants that they built, big, beautiful, modern plants,” Trump said.

In response, Araghchi wrote on X: “Para 13 of the MoU is clear: Negotiations on final Deal will not commence if threats continue. Honor your signature.”

The exchange marks the latest escalation in tensions as both sides continue to spar publicly over the future of negotiations on a permanent agreement.
