Druze MK Slams The Incitement Against Chareidim: “Without The Torah, There Is No State”

Druze MK Akram Hasson (New Hope) expressed unequivocal support for the proposed Basic Law: Torah Study, arguing that the public discourse against the Chareidi community and religious figures is driven by political considerations rather than genuine concern for the country.

In an interview with Kan Moreshet on Tuesday, the Druze lawmaker criticized the incitement against the Chareidi community and expressed support for the status of Lomdei Torah.

“Religious leaders must not be targeted through boycotts or for political gain,” he asserted. “They are respected people in every community and everywhere in the world. Only here do people try to harm them and change them in order to win more votes.”

“The Torah is important to every Jew. Without the Torah, there is no state. In any place that religious leaders were belittled or faith was abandoned, destruction and problems followed. Religious leaders are a blessing.”

Hasson also disputed claims that the Chareidi community is an economic burden, saying the figures on government funding are presented misleadingly.

“When you divide the budgets among one and a half million people, it comes to about 4,000 shekels per person per year—not per month. At a time when giant corporations generate hundreds of billions, it is davka the Chareidim who are portrayed as harming the economy. It is simply not true.”
