UMAN PREPARATIONS BEGIN: Ukrainian Police Launch Security Planning For Rosh Hashanah Pilgrimage

Jul 8, 2026·2 min read

Ukrainian authorities have officially begun preparations for the annual Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman, as senior police officials from the Cherkasy region met with Breslov leaders to coordinate security and logistics ahead of the arrival of tens of thousands of mispallelim.

Cherkasy Regional Police Chief Yaroslav Yevnovych Mezhenyi, accompanied by his deputies, visited the offices of the Breslov Union in Uman for a working meeting with Rabbi Nosson Ben Nun, chairman of the organization. The officials reviewed operational plans and discussed the unique security and logistical needs involved in accommodating the massive influx of visitors expected at the kever of Rebbi Nachman of Breslov.

Following the meeting, Rabbi Ben Nun led the police delegation on a comprehensive tour of the area surrounding Rebbi Nachman’s kever, where officers inspected key sites and reviewed preparations to ensure the city is ready for the annual gathering.

The visit is part of ongoing coordination between Ukrainian authorities and the Breslov Union, which works year-round with government agencies to facilitate the annual kibbutz and ensure that the tens of thousands of visitors can spend Rosh Hashanah in Uman safely and comfortably.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Knesset gave preliminary approval to legislation introduced by MK Eliyahu Revivo to establish a national center commemorating Rebbi Nachman of Breslov. The proposal, which passed its preliminary reading unanimously, would create a statutory public corporation responsible for preserving Rebbi Nachman’s legacy through a research institute, archive, educational programs, and a museum. The bill will now move to the Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee for further consideration.
