Israel on High Alert: Netanyahu, IDF Chief Of Staff Hold Emergency Security Consultations

Jul 9, 2026·2 min read

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz held an emergency security consultation on Wednesday night as tensions continue to escalate between the United States and Iran, following another round of high-intensity attacks in the region.

At the same time, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a series of security assessments at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv with senior officers from the Military Intelligence Directorate, the Israeli Air Force, and the Operations Directorate. The IDF said Zamir remains in direct contact with senior officials at U.S. Central Command and the Pentagon.

Israeli defense officials are closely monitoring developments in the Persian Gulf. Current assessments indicate that the fighting between the United States and Iran is likely to remain centered in the Gulf for now, but Israel is also preparing for the possibility that the conflict could spread and include direct Iranian attacks against Israel.

“Any Iranian attack on Israel will be met with a powerful Israeli response,” officials in Jerusalem warned. The statement came after overnight U.S. strikes reportedly hit 90 targets across Iran—the largest wave of attacks since the ceasefire.

According to reports, U.S. Central Command targeted Iranian air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage facilities, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along the country’s coastline. The U.S. military also struck two railway bridges in northern Iran.

Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at U.S. military installations across the Gulf, including Ali Al Salem Air Base and Ahmad Al Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters at Salman Port, and Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that if Washington broadens its military campaign, “we will immediately expand the range of our targets.”

President Donald Trump defended the operation, saying, “The strikes are retaliation for Iran’s bombing of ships. If it happens again, the situation will become much worse.”

For now, Israel’s Home Front Command has not changed its civilian security guidelines. Nevertheless, defense officials continue to monitor developments closely and say they are prepared for any scenario.
