He was 91 years old. A world-class talmid chacham and a true pioneer in the field of kashrus, he was among the first Rabbanim to establish a kosher certification organization in Los Angeles and was widely recognized as one of the foremost experts in kashrus, helping shape the city's kosher standards for generations. A devoted talmid of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein zt"l and Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, Rabbi Bukspan was personally brought to Los Angeles by Rabbi Simcha Wasserman zt"l more than 60 years ago to strengthen Torah life and kashrus in the growing community. Pursuit of a possible stolen vehicle ends In Crash At Martel And Willoughby, Suspects Bail On Foot A pursuit ended in a crash at the corner of Martel Avenue and Willoughby Avenue just after 9PM this evening where the vehicle struck a fire hydrant, sending a powerful geyser of water into the air. The suspects bailed out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. The Los Angeles Fire Department was able to shut off the water within about half an hour, preventing significant flooding from spreading onto nearby residential streets. LAPD officers are now searching the abandoned vehicle for possible evidence as the investigation continues.

UPDATE: Suspicious Vehicle Flees LAPD, Crashes Into Fire Hydrant At Martel And Willoughby LAPD officers reportedly noticed a suspicious vehicle and attempted to pull it over near Martel Avenue and Willoughby Avenue. Instead of stopping, the suspects attempted to flee in the vehicle and crashed into a fire hydrant, sending water gushing into the street. The suspects then jumped out of the car and fled on foot, possibly getting into another getaway vehicle. Police later discovered that the license plates on the crashed vehicle did not match the vehicle itself. LAPD is continuing to investigate the incident and search for those involved.

Bear sightings in neighborhoods near the foothills have become more common since the devastating Eaton Fire in January 2025, which burned thousands of acres of wildlife habitat in the nearby San Gabriel Mountains and foothill communities. The disruption of habitat can push wildlife, including bears, farther into residential areas in search of food and shelter. Residents in foothill neighborhoods are urged to secure trash and avoid approaching bears if they encounter one.

Jewish Father and Son Assaulted by Bat-Wielding Suspects in Beverly Hills A Jewish father and his son were reportedly assaulted near Clark Street and Whitworth Drive after two suspects armed with bats jumped out of a black Hyundai Elantra and attacked them. According to a witness, the victims—who were wearing kippahs, white button-down shirts, and black pants—were assaulted before the suspects fled the area in the vehicle. The Beverly Hills Police Department is searching for the suspects. An ambulance was requested to treat the victims at the scene. E-Bike Injuries Surging Among Children And Teens In Southern California E-bike injuries among children and teenagers are rising sharply, as the increasingly popular bikes can reach high speeds and crashes can result in serious head injuries, broken bones and other trauma. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles reportedly treated just 8 children and teens for e-bike injuries in 2023, rising to 16 in 2024 and 36 in 2025. In just the first five months of 2026, another 21 young patients had already been treated — putting this year on pace to climb even higher. Major Progress On West Hollywood Sinkhole Repairs — Roads Remain Closed Crews are making significant progress repairing the massive water-main break and sinkhole that damaged streets near Sunset Boulevard, Holloway Drive and Palm Avenue in West Hollywood last Thursday. LADWP crews have been working around the clock and have now installed a new 25-foot section of the damaged 36-inch water main. Crews are continuing excavation, checking for additional leaks, and must complete testing and disinfection before backfilling the area and repaving the damaged streets. Unfortunately, officials say there is still no firm date for when the affected roads will fully reopen. Even after the pipe repair is completed, significant street and sidewalk restoration will still be necessary before traffic can safely return

Now, some cases have reportedly been referred to county district attorneys for possible criminal prosecution. The DMV has not disclosed how many people could potentially face charges and stressed that receiving a retest notice does not automatically mean someone cheated. Affected drivers must retake the written test within the required timeframe or risk losing their driving privileges, while lawmakers continue demanding answers over how the DMV identified the suspected cheating.

Overturned Big Rig Spills Concrete, Shuts Down Major LA Freeway Connector An overturned big rig early Wednesday morning shut down the connector from the westbound 10 Freeway to the southbound 110 Freeway in Downtown Los Angeles, creating a major disruption for the morning commute. The big rig was carrying concrete, which spilled across the roadway when the truck overturned, making the cleanup more complicated. Crews are working to remove the truck and clear the spilled material before the connector can safely reopen. Drivers heading through Downtown Los Angeles should expect significant delays and use alternate routes while cleanup operations continue.
