Baltimore man files lawsuit against major sports card grading company PSA A Baltimore resident is accusing Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) of running a sports card monopoly, violating federal RICO statutes. It appears the crash at Park Heights Avenue and Slade Avenue involved a Baltimore Police vehicle. Police remain on scene directing traffic, and delays continue in the area.

Stations have little or no staff present to monitor the gates or assist passengers. MTA says paying the fare is still required, but declined to say how the agency verifies compliance while gates remain open. Maryland Motor Vehicle Administrator calls for drivers to slow down following deadly week After 5 people were killed on Maryland roads this past week, Chrissy Nizer, the state's Motor Vehicle Administrator, is calling for drivers to slow down. "We do know that in terms of the crashes we've seen is that speed is really a significant component that leads to serious injury as well as fatality," Nizer emphasized. 35 people were killed on Maryland roads in July, and 225 so far this year.

Baltimore Sun owner sues Gov. Moore over Trump, Epstein claims Baltimore Sun owner David D. Smith filed a defamation lawsuit against Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, alleging the governor falsely claimed Smith purchased The Baltimore Sun "to do Donald Trump's work" and suggested he was associated with Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit says the statements were false and defamatory, and seeks damages along with a public retraction. Gov. Moore's office has not publicly responded to the lawsuit. Gov. Moore is being sued in an individual capacity, not in his governmental capacity.

Construction advancing for the Frederick Douglass Amtrak tunnel in Baltimore following project redesign Work is progressing on the project to replace the 153-year-old B&P Tunnel underneath Baltimore, a major speed bottleneck for Amtrak and MARC trains running on the northeast corridor. Once completed, the new Frederick Douglass tunnel will allow train speeds of up to 100mph, significantly improving travel times over the current 30mph slowdowns in the old tunnel. The project redesign includes reducing excavation needs in certain places, doing more construction in parallel when feasible, and eliminating a ventilation facility in West Baltimore that was one of the causes of a civil rights complaint. Workers are currently constructing one of the two tunnel boring machines which will dig the new tunnel, starting in 2028. The project is projected to be completed in 2036.

Montgomery County Rabbi Challenges Gun Restriction Near Houses Of Worship A Montgomery County rabbi is challenging a county law that restricts legally carried firearms within 100 yards of houses of worship, schools, parks, libraries and other public places. Rabbi Menashe Shapiro told 7News that the law puts synagogues at greater risk by limiting the ability of trained volunteer security members to protect their own congregations. Shapiro argues that the issue is not only about Second Amendment rights, but also about religious freedom and the Jewish community’s responsibility to provide for its own safety, especially at a time of rising antisemitism. While the county law includes an exception for hired security, Shapiro says that is not realistic for many shuls, especially those with early morning, late-night and daily minyanim. Montgomery County officials said they do not comment on pending litigation.

Maryland House of Delegates votes to put redistricting on the ballot this fall The Democrat controlled Maryland House of Delegates voted today in a rare summer special session for a redistricting referendum to be included on the ballot this fall. The measure now heads to the state Senate, where a three-fifths vote would be required for the referendum to take place. Health Alert: Chesapeake Bay Bacteria Warning Maryland health officials are warning swimmers about Vibrio vulnificus, often referred to as flesh-eating bacteria, which has been found in Maryland waters including the Chesapeake Bay. Officials say there have been 29 confirmed cases so far this year, along with nearly 100 probable cases. The bacteria is more common in warm water and can enter the body through open cuts or wounds. Anyone with an open wound should avoid bay water or cover the wound with a waterproof bandage. If a wound is exposed to bay water, wash it right away with soap and clean water. Anyone who develops redness, swelling, severe pain, fever, blistering or drainage after being in the water should seek medical attention immediately.

13-Year-Old Driving Stolen Car Kills Father Of Five in Maryland A deadly crash involving a stolen car driven by a 13-year-old is putting Maryland’s juvenile justice system back under scrutiny. Police say William Vance Payne II, 58, a father of five, was killed this past Tuesday morning in Germantown when a stolen Kia Optima driven by a 13-year-old boy crashed into his vehicle as Payne was heading to work. Seven children — all 15 or younger — were inside the stolen Kia. Police say no adults were present. Because the alleged driver is only 13, former Montgomery County prosecutor Mark Anderson says any charges — potentially including auto theft and vehicular manslaughter — would remain in juvenile court, with no ability to prosecute him as an adult. Payne leaves behind his wife and five children.

Mayor Brandon Scott’s wife received $51,000 in taxpayer dollars through a nonprofit Hana Scott received $51,000 in Baltimore taxpayer dollars through Bmore Empowered, a nonprofit that received around $300,000 of taxpayer dollars through the Baltimore Children and Youth Fund (BCYF). The organization has since shut down. While Mayor Scott’s financial disclosures indicated his wife worked at a consulting firm, her LinkedIn page says she worked as the director of operations at Bmore Empowered. Scott did not respond to questions about what services she provided for the $51,000.

Second rabid beaver attack in two weeks reported at Maryland State Park State officials have closed a larger area of Cunningham Falls State Park following a second beaver attack. The victim, a 19 year old, was bit in the ankle while fishing this week. He was able to drive himself to the hospital where he received treatment for rabies exposure. The beaver was euthanized and tested positive for rabies.
