6:51 PMDeSantis Barely Beat Andrew Gillum In 2018 Before Major Election Reforms People forget that Ron DeSantis won by less than 0.5 percent back in 2018. Had things gone the other way, Florida would have faced strict lockdowns during Covid, and the ripple effects across the country could have been massive. The race stayed too close for comfort because deep blue Broward County kept finding votes weeks later. DeSantis held on. Fast forward to 2022. After reforming Florida's elections, DeSantis won by nearly 20 points. Votes were counted within hours. It's a powerful reminder of what happens when election integrity is actually enforced. For now, passengers should continue using the airport's existing PBI code when booking flights, checking in or tagging baggage. The airport's three-letter code will not change to DJT until Aug. 18, and signs, branding and other materials will be updated gradually. Airport officials said the renaming is a branding change only and will not affect ownership, airport operations, airline service, security procedures or passenger amenities. More than 8 million travelers use the airport each year. Officials said their priority remains providing a safe, reliable and efficient travel experience while the transition is carried out in phases.
