A man is in jail after detectives say he tried to scam a business out of an $146,000 boat, knowing he didn't have enough money to buy it. Anthony Vallejo, the business manager at Riva Motorsports Miami, said the man told them he made a wire transfer, but never showed confirmation. Instead, he showed them a receipt showing that he deposited a check into the business’s bank account. A few days later, the bank told Riva Motorsports that the check deposited was returned because of insufficient funds, according to an arrest report.

Construction continues to progress on the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building! Florida Atlantic University celebrated the start of construction in September of 2025, and the building is expected to be completed in Fall 2026. The 22,000-square-foot, two-story structure will be the home of Florida Atlantic’s Holocaust education, Jewish studies and related programs. Even with a 19-cent drop over the past week, the pump average in Florida is approaching its 50th consecutive day over the $4 mark. A new $33 million operations center is coming to Miami International Airport. The 13,254 square-foot facility will house staff from 30 different emergency response agencies to improve safety at the airport. That includes the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Transportation Security Administration and Border Patrol. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the center will be equipped with Artificial Intelligence cameras and a massive HD quality video wall. The center is expected to open in 2027.

A man is dead after the car he was driving was hit by a Tri-Rail train on Wednesday in Oakland Park. According to Tri-Rail, the crash happened at 10:12 a.m. as a train was heading southbound to the maintenance yard. It hit the car at Oakland Park Boulevard.

But abnormally warm water in the Atlantic makes it more likely that at least one very large, destructive hurricane will form.
