The aircraft, painted in Arkia’s livery, has 245 seats in two classes: 45 in Business Class and 200 in Economy. Its expanded Business Class cabin is part of the airline’s continued investment in upgrading its long-haul product and passenger experience. The A330-300 will primarily serve Arkia’s New York route, which has emerged over the past year as one of the airline’s flagship services as it continues to expand its North American and long-haul operations. The aircraft joins an Airbus A330-200 already operating in Arkia colors. Depending on seasonal and operational requirements, the airline currently operates between three and four wide-body aircraft. “The addition of this aircraft is another step in implementing Arkia’s strategy to expand its long-haul operations,” said Arkia CEO Oz Berlowitz. “New York has become one of our flagship routes, and we are continuing to invest in our fleet, our Business Class product and the competition we offer passengers. Seeing another wide-body aircraft flying in Arkia colors reflects the company’s growth and how far we have come in recent years.”
1:36 AMHijacking Attempt: A flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv (FZ1073) made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, this morning after an attempted hijacking by the co-pilot. According to passenger accounts, the co-pilot stabbed the pilot and tried to take control of the plane, which plunged thousands of feet and transmitted a hijack distress code. Israeli passengers near the front rushed the cockpit and overpowered the attacker b'chasdei Hashem, while two off-duty pilots onboard helped land the aircraft. All roughly 180 passengers are safe. Israeli security officials are treating the incident as an attempted terror attack, and a second flydubai flight to Tel Aviv turned back to Dubai as a precaution.
