KIAMESHA: Catskills Hatzalah transported a person from Fraser Road who was injured after the ATV he was on overturned.

An MVA occurred on Route 17 East between Exits 126 and 129, where a vehicle veered off the roadway. New York State Police responded to the scene, and minor injuries were reported.

TRAGEDY – UPDATE: As Catskills Scoop reported earlier, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Woodridge. Catskills Scoop has now learned that the victim was Ronald Kates, 81, a former Village of Woodridge trustee who was also involved with the Woodridge Shul. Kates suffered massive head trauma and was later niftar in the hit-and-run. Chesed Shel Emes is ensuring Kavod Hames and arranging the Taharah, and the Levaya and Kevurah will take place at the Ellenville Cemetery.

ELLENVILLE: Beginning September 2, police dispatching for the Village of Ellenville will transition to Ulster County 911. Anyone needing an emergency response from Ellenville Police should dial 911. The department’s local phone numbers will remain active, but callers will hear a prompt directing them to hang up and dial 911 for emergencies, while non-emergency callers will have menu options to reach police administration. Village officials also thanked current and former Ellenville Police dispatchers for their decades of dedicated service.

A Woodridge man was jailed on $40,000 bail following an incident at the IGA supermarket in Woodridge on Friday, August 28. Police said Benjamin Salvay became combative while being taken into custody, resisted arrest and kicked an officer in the face, causing injuries that required emergency hospital treatment. Salvay was charged with felony arson and misdemeanor resisting arrest, with additional charges pending.

A 33-year-old Monticello woman was arrested and charged with two felony burglaries involving separate shuls in Monticello. Police say one burglary occurred at the Pine Knoll Bungalow Colony shul on Forestburgh Road, while surveillance footage also linked her to a September 1 burglary at another shul on Wood Avenue. Catskills Shomrim assisted Monticello Police by obtaining and reviewing surveillance footage that helped investigators track down the suspects. One suspect was taken into custody following a foot pursuit, while police continue searching for a second individual who fled the scene.

ELLENVILLE: New York State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon at 15 Spring Street in the Village of Ellenville. Troopers responded at approximately 3:25 p.m. and found a 46-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. He was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police say there is no immediate danger to the public, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Ellenville at (845) 344-5300.

Earlier today, a car caught fire on Route 17 eastbound near Exit 116. Firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.

MONTICELLO: Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Barry J. Bowser, 37, following a search warrant at his West Broadway residence. Authorities say they recovered approximately 35 grams of heroin/fentanyl, crack cocaine, digital scales and packaging materials. Bowser, who was already on probation for a prior drug offense, was charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Animal Cruelty after an emaciated dog was also found at the residence.

Rock Hill Fire Department responded at approximately 6:55 AM to a serious single-vehicle crash in which a vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and came to rest off the road with the driver heavily trapped inside. Firefighters worked with Rock Hill Ambulance Corps and Sullivan County EMS for approximately 30 minutes to extricate the driver, who was then airlifted by LifeNet 75 to Westchester Medical Center. Monticello and Fallsburg fire departments, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and NYSEG also assisted at the scene.

MONTICELLO: Police arrested Skyler J. Madura, 32, of Monticello, in connection with a burglary at a commercial business on Broadway. Police say surveillance video showed a man smashing the front door with a hatchet, entering the business, and stealing about $100 and a religious statue. Madura was spotted by an officer Tuesday night and arrested without incident. He faces burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny charges.
