GOP gubernatorial candidate and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman vowed to overhaul New York’s Parole Board if elected governor, blaming Gov. A 17-year-old student is wanted by the NYPD after a gun was found inside his backpack at Sheepshead Bay High School on Avenue X Friday afternoon. Police say the firearm was discovered after the student went through a scanner while attending sports practice. The teen fled before officers arrived and remained at large as of Friday evening. No injuries were reported.

A suspect was arrested by the NYPD with the assistance of Flatbush Shomrim volunteers at Quentin Road and East 24th Street on Friday in connection with a criminal mischief incident.

A 58-year-old man was fatally hit by a B44 MTA bus on Nostrand Avenue near Avenue D on Saturday evening. Police say the man stumbled into the side of the bus and fell into the roadway before being struck as the bus pulled away from the stop. The 58-year-old bus driver apparently did not realize what had happened and continued from the scene. The victim was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating, and no arrests have been made.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Monday signed an executive order creating the Mayor’s Office of Worker Power, which City Hall says is the first office of its kind in the nation. Five FDNY firefighters were injured while battling a two-alarm fire at an auto body shop on Cropsey Avenue Monday morning. More than 140 fire and EMS personnel responded, and the fire was brought under control shortly after 10:00 a.m. The firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Gas prices are climbing across New York City, with AAA reporting Wednesday that the average price for a gallon of regular has reached $4.41 — up 11 cents from last week and 27 cents from a month ago.

The NYPD announced significantly increased security ahead of Rosh Hashanah, with additional officers being deployed around shuls, yeshivas and Jewish institutions throughout all five boroughs. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department is preparing two major security operations this week — one for the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and another focused on the Yomim Tovim.

Two men who operated a Brooklyn construction safety training company have been indicted for allegedly selling fake OSHA and site-safety cards for $500 each to workers who never completed the required training. Prosecutors say undercover investigators posed as construction workers during the investigation.

🚨 WILD SCENES: The incident began with an attempted gunpoint carjacking of a BMW near Kings Highway and East 16th Street, but the suspects were unsuccessful. About a minute later, a vehicle was stolen at gunpoint near Avenue O and East 16th Street, sparking a major NYPD pursuit. Officers from the 70th Precinct were reportedly tracking a phone inside the stolen vehicle as the pursuit continued onto the Belt Parkway toward Queens before eventually heading back toward Brooklyn. The vehicle was later abandoned near Avenue T and Kimball Street in Marine Park, where one suspect was taken into custody following a foot pursuit while another fled. The fleeing suspect then carjacked another vehicle, a RAV4, and the pursuit continued. An officer-involved shooting occurred near Avenue K and East 100th Street before the RAV4 was ultimately recovered near Pennsylvania and Cozine avenues and a second suspect was taken into custody. At least one firearm was recovered in connection with the incident. An NYPD vehicle was also involved in a crash near Rockaway Parkway and Seaview Avenue during the pursuit. The investigation remains ongoing.

City officials acknowledged Wednesday that they did not disclose a nearly two-hour 911 system outage that occurred in May, as they faced questioning from the City Council over a separate seven-hour outage in August that blocked nearly 1,700 emergency calls. Officials said new communication protocols are being developed following the failures.

City Council leaders are moving to tighten New York City’s press credentialing rules after controversy over official press passes being issued to supporters of Luigi Mangione.
