According to MDA’s summary of the holiday, 3,322 people received medical treatment, with 2,268 taken to hospitals for further care. Among those treated were 368 people who fainted, became dehydrated or felt unwell because of the fast. Bicycle, rollerblade, scooter and skateboard accidents accounted for another 299 injuries. Nine people were moderately injured, while the remaining 290 suffered mild injuries. The holiday also saw three fatalities in violence and road crashes. Smith returned fire, and a second officer arriving at the scene also fired at the suspect. His community remembered him as a humble, kindhearted man, a devoted husband and father, and an inseparable part of Alei Zahav. The attacker, identified in the preliminary investigation as a 37-year-old Hamas operative, was wounded by an IDF tracker who returned fire.
