5:28 AMDemocrat Abdul El-Sayed wins U.S. Senate race in Michigan, becoming the first Muslim elected to the Senate.
12:47 PM$72 million raised in one night: Mosdos Pnei Menachem raised $72 million at the "Shabbos Chavrusa" in Florida this past weekend with Rav Shaul Alter. The money will go toward the new beis medrash planned in Yerushalayim, which is expected to cost as much as $200 million. • Rav Shaul, known as the Gerrer rosh yeshiva, spent the Shabbos in Tampa with approximately 150 donors who are part of his “Chavrusa” program. These donors are offered access to him to learn and discuss sugyos. For the past three years, they have gotten together for a Shabbos, first in Atlanta and last year in Tbilisi, Georgia.

1:56 PMMichigan Senate winner Abdul El-Sayed, an outspoken anti-Semite and called a ‘Jihadist’ by the president: "My name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed.”
2:12 PMMidterm Election Results: Democrats flipped seven Senate seats and overcame the Republicans’ House redistricting effort to capture control of Congress. Where we're at: • Democrats on Wednesday were celebrating a seismic triumph in the midterm elections, winning control of the Senate and the House as voters delivered a rebuke to President Trump and reset the balance of power in Washington. What remains at play: • Among the questions remaining as Wednesday dawned were how big the Democrats’ House majority would be, and whether the party could yet widen its lead in the Senate. Ballots were still being counted in Alaska’s contentious Senate race and in the unlikely battleground of Mississippi, where less than 50 votes separated the two candidates. • But a blue wave had already become a red wipeout: Democrats flipped Senate seats in Maine, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and even Texas. Republicans had held the Senate seats in Texas and South Carolina for decades. The Kansas seat had been red for nearly a century. • Senator Susan Collins, a long-serving Maine Republican who had repeatedly foiled Democratic efforts to unseat her, conceded her race to the Democrat Troy Jackson. • In Texas, James Talarico, a state legislator who became a national fund-raising sensation, toppled Ken Paxton, the scandal-ridden Republican state attorney general whom Trump had elevated to the nomination. • In South Carolina, Annie Andrews prevailed over Senator Darline Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. • And Abdul El-Sayed won in Michigan, becoming the first Muslim elected to the Senate, even after his defeated primary rival endorsed the Republican nominee.
2:27 PMThe race for the final two Senate seats remains tight: In Mississippi, Democrat Scott Colom leads incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by just 43 votes, while in Alaska, incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan leads Democrat Mary Peltola by 1,677 votes.
2:51 PM"Let's do it. Let's try to call the president." • Politico's Dasha Burns called President Trump last night live on air.
2:57 PMSpaceX Takes on Wireless Giants With Nationwide 5G Network Launch • SpaceX announced a partnership with Qualcomm to build Starlink Mobile’s nationwide 5G network, with deployment beginning in 2027. • The multiyear deal calls for tens of thousands of cellular sites across the US, powered by Qualcomm’s Dragonwing technology and advanced Massive MIMO systems to boost coverage and capacity. • The network will combine traditional cell towers with SpaceX’s satellite constellation, aiming to keep customers connected virtually everywhere while laying the groundwork for future 6G technology. • The move marks a major step toward SpaceX becoming a nationwide wireless carrier, putting it in direct competition with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
3:08 PMJD Vance blamed Republicans’ sweeping midterm losses on the war with Iran, arguing that voters who backed Trump in 2024 turned against the GOP over the conflict
4:54 PMSpeaker Mike Johnson told his staff he will not run for House minority leader, just hours after Republicans suffered deep losses in Tuesday's midterm elections. Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise are expected to run for the post.
5:02 PMVance Blames Iran War & Israel Relationship for GOP Midterm Losses: • Vice President JD Vance directly blamed the U.S. war with Iran for the Republican Party's sweeping midterm losses, breaking sharply with President Trump's narrative in a lengthy post on X this morning: “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.” • His assessment came hours after a “blue wave” handed Democrats control of both the House and the Senate • Vance said public anger over the war, which has driven up oil and gas prices during an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, cost Republicans their majorities • Citing a trusted pollster, Vance said many 2024 Trump voters flipped to Democrats for four reasons: ending the Iran war, focusing on inflation, putting “America first,” and changing the U.S. relationship with Israel • Vance pointedly challenged supporters of the war in his party: “If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so... Agree or disagree, that's at least honest.”

6:57 PMNo hope when a US president hates America: Ron Dermer, a former top aide to PM Netanyahu, makes the case that Israel can always appeal to American leaders based on what’s best for America. But when Americans elect anti-American leaders, they are stuck. • “We can deal with an anti-Israel president by appealing to American interests,” he said. “What we can’t deal with is an anti-American president.”
7:49 PMTrump Weighs Hegseth's Future After Midterm Losses: • President Trump has been asking aides and associates, by phone and in person, whether Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should remain in his post, CBS News reports. • White House talks have focused on the political fallout from the unpopular war in Iran • Vice President JD Vance has blamed the war for the GOP's sweeping congressional defeats. • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has reportedly been floated as a successor who could be confirmed in the lame-duck session before his term ends January 5.
7:50 PMRa'am Backs Eisenkot, Putting Him Ahead of Netanyahu: • The Arab-led Ra'am party officially announced it will recommend opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot for prime minister, a critical boost following the inconclusive October 27 election. • Ra'am's eight incoming lawmakers bring Eisenkot to 56 endorsements, surpassing incumbent PM Netanyahu's 53. • The Arab-led Joint List, holding the remaining 11 seats, has signaled a strong lean toward Eisenkot as well, which would give him up to 67 recommendations. • President Isaac Herzog is widely expected to hand Eisenkot the first mandate, but that only gives him up to 42 days to try to build a 61-seat coalition in the 120-seat Knesset, with no guarantee of success. • Recommending is not the same as joining: Ra'am and the Joint List may be backing Eisenkot mainly to block Netanyahu, with no commitment to sign a coalition deal or sit in his government. • If he fails, the mandate passes back to Netanyahu or opens to any Knesset member, and if no one reaches 61, Israel heads to yet another snap election.

11:41 PMTrump Administration Divided Over Iran War After Midterm Losses | WSJ: • The Trump administration is increasingly divided over how to proceed with the war against Iran following Republican losses in the midterm elections, according to The Wall Street Journal. • Some officials are urging Trump to launch additional strikes before pursuing a peace deal, while others want to wind down the military operation. • Republicans have linked their election setbacks partly to public fatigue with the war and rising fuel prices.
11:52 PMHeat revealing Italy’s buried secrets: Atop northern Italy’s Dolomites, record-breaking summer heat has peeled back layers of ice and revealed troves of World War I weaponry. The Italian army has already defused 250 explosive devices. • The dangerous relics have largely been spotted by hikers. In one bizarre instance, firefighters found an unexploded 90-millimeter mortar shell while salvaging a car that had rolled into a ravine after the driver forgot to brake. • The weaponry is a chilling vestige of the “White War,” a brutal campaign fought between the Austro-Hungarian and Italian militaries between 1915 and 1918. The battled claimed 180,000 lives, largely though hypothermia, falls and avalanches. When hostilities ceased, both sides abandoned their arsenals and fallen soldiers, which were buried under winter snowdrifts and encased in solid glacial ice.
12:03 AMJews return to Yericho, first since Oslo Accords: For the first time since the Oslo Accords gave Yericho to the Palestinians 32 years ago, Jews are back to the Ihr Hat’marim. • Jewish families covertly purchased eight houses on the outskirts of the city near the Jordanian border and moved in today. The area is part of Area C, which is under Israeli control, but the new residents were accompanied by security teams. The move was kept secret until the moment of entry into the homes. • According to the Benjamin Regional Council, the houses are located on state lands, near the archaeological site of the palaces built by later kings of the Chashmonai dynasty. The IDF said it was caught off guard by the move. The move, despite its legality, will likely lead to global outrage amid concern over isolated incidents of violence in the area.

12:17 AMHochul looking to seize power over education: The independent body overseeing education in New York state struck a raw nerve among parents when they abolished the requirement for Regents exams. Gov. Kathy Hochul, freshly off a decisive victory this week, is now talking about gaining more control of the Education Department. • “People see in the articles, ‘New York State abandons Regents,’” Hochul said. “They think I’m New York.” She added: “The buck should stop with me, given that we are the funder of education.” Right now, the Board of Regents, a body of 17 people selected by the Assembly, makes all the decisions. • The Board voted years ago to transition away from the Regents exam by this year but has still not clarified what will replace it as a graduation requirement. The class of 2027 is the last crop of students required to pass Regents exams under the state’s current timeline. Hochul is concerned that the lack of clarity weakens the power of a diploma. • Already in New York City, officials have said that they can’t wait for the state — for the next three years, students will only have to pass their classes to earn a diploma. • Hochul has previously clashed with state education officials on other issues, including a school cellphone ban and free breakfasts. When Education Commissioner Betty Rosa imposed onerous requirements of yeshivas and threatened to close down those that don’t meet it, Hochul circumvented her by passing a new state law earlier this year.
1:30 AM400-year-old combination lock opened: A brass lock on a ship that sank 450 years ago remained firmly locked since then, with researchers afraid to force open the combination lock and damage it. Until this week. Scientists using cutting-edge CT scanning technology discovered that the centuries-old four-letter code was ANCE. They spun the letters and it easily swung open. • The Ann Francis wrecked off the Welsh coast on Dec. 28, 1583, during a ferocious storm while returning from Spain. It is believed the lock once secured a small chest containing items of significant value. Found near a collection of Spanish silver coins and close to two coin weights recovered from the wreck site, the lock may have protected these objects or secured a chest containing valuable items that have not survived, such as documents or textiles. • The Elizabethan era used combination locks in Britain, but this one is in exceptionally good condition. The majority of the ship's remarkable hoard was discovered between 1996 and 2017.
2:06 AMTrump preserving his White House renovations: President Trump exerted so much effort into remaking Washington, what’s stopping some future president from ditching it all? A proclamation, that’s what. • Trump signed a proclamation today declaring the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, both of which he has decorated with gold accents during his second term, into a national monument. “It will not be allowed to be touched by anybody, destroyed, ripped down by stupid people in order to build something in a slightly different shape,” Trump said. “We like the Oval Office, and it’s a symbol like the White House itself.” • The legal force of the proclamation was unclear, and future presidents would have the authority to overturn it. The proclamation also said that a president could redecorate or make “ordinary operational and security modifications” that did not affect the rooms’ historic structure or character. Trump allowed that a future president could remove his gold decorations, so long as he’s “careful.”
