Numerous flights were delayed or canceled Monday morning at Miami International Airport, a day after an Amazon cargo plane went off a runway and crashed, killing five people and injuring five others. AIPAC Gives Record Money To Florida Senate And House Races The American Israel Public Affairs Committee has poured more money into Florida congressional races than ever before. AIPAC donated millions to 26 Florida candidates for U.S. Senate and Congress, according to new reporting from the Tampa Bay Times. Public FEC trackers put total pro-Israel PAC money to Florida’s current congressional delegation at about $7.65 million. Every sitting Florida member has received some of it. The biggest Florida recipient is Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Other large totals include Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, Rep. Brian Mast, Rep. Jared Moskowitz, and Rep. Randy Fine. Sen. Holdout Edgewater Condo Owners Settle With Two Roads For Tens Of Millions A years-long fight over Biscayne 21 in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood is over. Two Roads Development has settled with the remaining owners at 2121 N. Bayshore Drive, paying them a reported $40 million-plus (some reports put it near $50 million) to buy out the last units. The deal ends a bitter standoff over the old waterfront building. Two Roads bought most of the units in 2022 and wanted to tear it down for the 55-story Edition Residences. A small group of owners refused to sell, sued, and won key court rulings after the developer-controlled board tried to lower the vote needed to terminate the condo. The building sat empty for years. Courts later ordered restoration work after demolition had already started. Both sides kept fighting until the buyout closed. Two Roads now plans to demolish what’s left and move the Edition project forward, with construction expected to start soon and completion targeted for 2029. Fort Lauderdale officials are warning residents to prepare for king tides that could bring flooding to low-lying areas beginning Thursday. The tension became public Sunday night when the two appeared together at a news conference following the crash that killed five people. As Cordero-Stutz prepared to speak, Mayor Levine Cava’s chief of staff, Chris Hudtwalcker, suggested the mayor should address reporters first because the mayor oversees the airport. “This is public safety. And I’m going first,” Cordero-Stutz responded. NTSB Releases Video From Deadly Runway Overrun At MIA The NTSB has released video from Sunday’s runway overrun at Miami International Airport. The footage shows the two vehicles struck by the Boeing 767 after it ran off the end of Runway 30, and the aircraft sitting on its nose well beyond the pavement. Five people were killed. Five others were injured. The plane, 21 Air Flight 7598 operating for Amazon Air, was arriving from San Juan when it overran the runway around 1:53 p.m. Sunday. It crossed the airport perimeter, hit a Ford van carrying airport cleaning workers, then struck an SUV on Northwest 67th Avenue. All five who died were in the van. They worked for Professional Ocean Service Corporation, an airline cleaning contractor. Investigators are back at the scene today, with interviews of those involved scheduled. Florida Scoop’s Take: The video is hard to watch. Five people left for a shift at the airport and never made it home. That is the part of this story Miami should sit with.

Women Gather For Hafrashat Challah At Ashira Jewish Women Center Women came together at Ashira Jewish Women Center this week for a Rosh Hashanah Hafrashat Challah gathering. Each woman prepared her own dough, then joined as a group for the mitzvah of separating challah. When the dough has enough flour, the bracha is said, a small portion is set aside, and it is burned. The three countries this week said they will ban imports of goods from Judea Samaria region settlements, joining a wider group of nations citing settlement expansion. A $1-an-hour Miami Beach parking deal sounded like a bargain, but some drivers said the discount disappeared at checkout. The city said 19 customers were impacted in one parking zone and refunds are being issued. Officials said the problem has since been fixed. The Miami Beach Fire Department will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout the city Monday night as part of its annual maintenance and testing program. The work is scheduled to continue nightly, including weekends, through Sept. 25. Crews will begin at 11 p.m. and move north through Miami Beach in sections. Miami Beach has more than 1,400 fire hydrants. The city says each hydrant flush should take less than five minutes. The maintenance helps ensure the hydrants and water distribution system are operating properly and helps identify potential problems before an emergency. Residents may notice temporary discoloration or cloudiness in their tap water while hydrants are being flushed. The city says sediment can be stirred up in nearby water mains.

Florida AG Sues Netflix Over Kids’ Data And Screen Time Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sued Netflix today, accusing the company of tracking children on kids profiles and using that data after years of telling families the service was ad-free and private. The lawsuit says Netflix recorded what Florida kids and families watched, paused, rewound, searched, skipped, and stopped watching. It also alleges the company logged devices and locations, then used that information to train algorithms and power advertising after ads launched in November 2022. Uthmeier says Netflix marketed kids profiles as a safe space for children 12 and under, while still collecting viewing data through the same systems used on adult accounts. The complaint also targets autoplay and other design features the state says are meant to keep kids watching. The case was filed in St. Johns County and alleges violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and the Florida Digital Bill of Rights. Florida is asking a judge to force Netflix to delete data the state says was collected deceptively, stop the designs that keep children glued to the screen, and face civil penalties. “Netflix told Florida families they could pay a monthly fee to escape Big Tech surveillance. That was false,” Uthmeier said. Netflix has not issued a public response.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department celebrated the opening of its new headquarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a milestone for the department and the community. Broward County Commissioner Lamar Fisher highlighted the event, honoring the department’s officers and staff and their work serving and protecting the community. The new headquarters provides the department with a new facility as it continues its law enforcement operations in Fort Lauderdale.

Rabbi Efrem Goldberg Names Grandson In Yerushalayim Rabbi Efrem Goldberg named his new grandson in Yerushalayim this morning. As meaningful as that was, he said another moment moved him even more. The baby’s other grandfather, Rabbi Elly, is a longtime friend. They learned together in the Gruss Kollel years ago under Rav Dovid Miller. At the bris, Rav Miller held the baby and then handed him to Rav Elimelech Reznick, the Rebbe of the baby’s father. To outsiders it looked like a simple handoff. To them it was one Rebbe passing a child to the next Rebbe. One generation handing him to the next. Rabbi Goldberg called it a living picture of mesorah.

Miami Man Pleads Guilty In $245 Million Bitcoin Heist A 22-year-old who lived in Miami pleaded guilty Tuesday to helping steal more than $245 million in bitcoin from a Washington, D.C. resident. Malone Lam, a Singapore citizen and eighth-grade dropout, admitted to a federal racketeering conspiracy charge. Prosecutors say he was a ringleader in one of the largest crypto thefts in U.S. history. The group used social engineering to drain wallets, including more than 4,100 bitcoin from one victim in August 2024. The stolen funds then paid for Miami rental mansions, private jets, exotic cars, luxury watches, and nightclub tabs that reached hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single night. Lam was arrested in September 2025 at a rental home in Miami. He faces up to 20 years in prison. A status hearing is set for Dec. 8 before U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.

Florida Rep. Luna Demands Immediate Ban On Congressional Stock Trading Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is calling on the Senate to ban members of Congress from trading stocks, saying public office should not be a path to private wealth. Speaking Wednesday at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas, Luna said the American people want lawmakers “out of the stock market” and pressed the Senate to act. The House already passed a stock-trading limit in July. That bill would block members, their spouses, and dependent children from buying individual stocks while in office. They could keep existing holdings, but would have to give public notice at least seven days before selling. The measure has not moved in the Senate. Florida Scoop’s Take: Voters have wanted this for years. The House vote is already on the books. The next question is whether the Senate will touch it.

🇺🇸 - CNBC Host Confronts Utah Governor Over Kirk Anniversary Tattoos CNBC’s Joe Kernen pushed back hard this morning on the idea that political violence is a “both sides” problem. He was on Squawk Box with Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, who is promoting a new book about civility one day before the first anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Kernen pointed to tattoo artists advertising neck tattoos in the same spot where Kirk was shot. “People overtly still celebrating,” he said. “Maybe I AM polarized, because I don’t want anything to do with those people. I’m not going to make amends.” He called what he is seeing “totally unacceptable” and said it is “mostly coming from one side.” A Portland tattoo artist advertised a $50 “Kirkiversary” special for Thursday, offering neck tattoos in what the ad called “the exact placement of the kirkhole.” Kirk was 31 when he was shot and killed on Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at Utah Valley University. Byron Donalds told a GOP convention crowd that Florida and Texas share something essential. “Our two states prove every single day that Republican policies built on common sense work for the American people,” Donalds said. He framed the case around smaller government, lower taxes, fewer regulations, and backing law enforcement. “And when the Democrats show up saying, ‘let’s put boys and girls locker rooms,’ we say, ‘hell no.’”

Fort Lauderdale Opens New $165 Million Police Headquarters On Broward Boulevard Fort Lauderdale officially opened its new three-story police headquarters after years of delays, design problems, and rising costs. The 191,000-square-foot building on Broward Boulevard replaces the department’s aging old HQ and includes evidence labs, training rooms, a shooting range, and space to examine phones, laptops, and other devices. Police Chief Bill Schultz said the new forensic tools, including NIBIN ballistic analysis, would never have fit in the old building. The facility is rated to withstand a Category 5 hurricane so the department can keep operating in a major storm. Voters approved a $100 million bond seven years ago. The final price tag landed around $165 million after delays and a design flaw discovered in 2024. Mayor Dean Trantalis said officers, detectives, and staff will work out of the building, and residents will come there when they need help. It will also include community space and host city commission meetings while a new city hall is built. Florida Scoop’s Take: A modern HQ with labs and hurricane hardening is a real upgrade. The $65 million jump from the original bond is still going to sit with a lot of residents.

Sunny Isles Beach Opens Intracoastal Sports Park On Collins Sunny Isles Beach officially opened the new Intracoastal Sports Park last Thursday at 15800 Collins Avenue. Mayor Larisa Svechin posted a look back at the grand opening, thanking residents who came out for the 6 to 8 p.m. event. The park sits at 158th Street and Collins and includes tennis and basketball courts, outdoor workout stations, and a walking path. It was built on a former construction site the city broke ground on in February 2025. Florida Scoop’s Take: This is a real win for the south end of Sunny Isles. A lot of people can walk there, and the city finally has outdoor courts instead of only the indoor space at Pelican Community Park.
