12:48 AM🙏 A Special Tefillah for Toronto Cheder Talmidim Harav Kolodetzky, שליט"א, davening at the kever of the Chazon Ish for talmidim of The Toronto Cheder. During a visit to the Cheder a few months ago, the Rov promised to daven for every Grade 5–8 talmid who committed to learning from after Cheder on Erev Shabbos through Sunday, for a six-week period. A beautiful moment, and a powerful reward for the boys’ dedication to Torah learning. 📖

1:42 AM🇺🇸 Rare Gathering of Chassidishe Rebbes Planned at White House Some of America’s most prominent Chassidishe Rebbes and Torah leaders have reportedly been invited to meet President Donald Trump at the White House this Thursday — including the two Satmar Rebbes, Skver, Bobov, Vizhnitz-Monsey and Lakewood Rosh Yeshiva Rav Malkiel Kotler. The gathering has a fascinating historical precedent: 47 years ago, President Jimmy Carter hosted the Satmar, Bobover and Vizhnitzer Rebbes in the Oval Office. And the generational connection is remarkable: both Satmar Rebbes invited this week are sons of the Satmar Rebbe who met Carter in 1979 — while the invited Vizhnitzer Rebbe is likewise the son of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe who attended that historic meeting. What will they discuss? Why is the Israeli yeshiva draft controversy potentially on the table? And just how rare is a gathering like this? 👉 READ MORE: https://www.thetorontoscoop.com/news/leading-chassidishe-rebbes-and-rosh-yeshiva-reportedly-invited-to-rare-white-house-meeting-with-trump

Once you’ve paid for 47 trips in a calendar month, every additional TTC ride that month is FREE. ⚠️ Important: Stick to the same card/device all month or your trips may not count toward the same cap. The cap resets at the beginning of each month — and is expected to drop to 40 paid trips in 2027. For a regular adult PRESTO fare, the maximum works out to $155.10 per month. Tap as usual. Once you hit the cap, you’ll still tap — but pay $0.

5:06 PM🚨 BREAKING: U.S. LAUNCHES NEW STRIKES ON IRAN President Donald Trump says the United States is carrying out “large and powerful” strikes against Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump says the strikes come in response to Iran’s failed attempt to place sea mines in the Strait and its launch of eight missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan, which he says were all intercepted. ⚠️ Trump issued an extraordinary warning that if Iran retaliates, it will be hit “at a much harder and higher level,” adding that an even larger attack is “waiting in the wings.” “When it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!” Trump declared. 🔗 Read more on the rapidly developing U.S.–Iran escalation: https://www.thetorontoscoop.com/news/u-s-launches-new-wave-of-strikes-against-iran-trump-warns-of-further-escalation

6:29 PM🚨 IS A ROSH HASHANAH WITHOUT SHOFAR A BAD OMEN? This year, the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos — which means we will not hear the shofar on the first day. But the Gemara makes a startling statement: A year in which the shofar is not blown at its beginning can face adversity because the Satan was not confounded. So what about this year? 🔹 Is not having the shofar on the first day always a bad omen? 🔹 Does this apply even when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos? 🔹 Can not blowing the shofar actually accomplish the very same thing as blowing it? In Part One of a fascinating new Toronto Scoop series based on shiurim from Rav Yissochor Dov Feldman at Kollel Yeshurun, we explore Rav Ahron Kotler’s powerful explanation and the Aruch LaNer’s remarkable insight into why a Rosh Hashanah on Shabbos can be associated with some of the greatest years in Jewish history... or some of the most devastating. 👉 When Rosh Hashanah Has No Shofar: The Hidden Power of Shabbos 🔗 Read the full article: https://www.thetorontoscoop.com/news/when-rosh-hashanah-has-no-shofar-the-hidden-power-of-shabbos

6:15 PM🚨 $2M+ IN CANADIAN GOV’T CONTRACTS — DESPITE IRAN SECURITY FLAGS A major new investigation is raising serious questions about Canada’s national-security and government procurement systems. Mohammad Reza “Sal” Ghafouri — the son of a former Iranian vice-president — runs companies that received more than $2 MILLION in Canadian government contracts, including from the Department of National Defence and RCMP. But a declassified CSIS report alleges that before coming to Canada, Ghafouri was involved in Iranian military technology and procurement, including work connected to an anti-aircraft missile system. CSIS also alleges that after moving to Canada, he met with members of Iran’s intelligence ministry. ⚠️ Canadian authorities reportedly raised national-security concerns about Ghafouri years ago — yet government contracts continued, including a DND arrangement awarded in late 2023. In May, immigration officials reportedly began proceedings to block him from obtaining Canadian citizenship on the grounds that he poses a “threat to the security of Canada.” Ghafouri disputes the allegations, which have not been proven in court, and he has not been criminally charged over them. How did someone under national-security scrutiny continue receiving Canadian government contracts? 2:53 PM🇺🇸🚨 REPUBLICANS BAR CBC FROM MAJOR U.S. CONVENTION The fallout from CBC’s controversial 9/11 policy is growing. The Republican National Committee has revoked CBC/Radio-Canada’s previously approved press credentials for its Sept. 9–10 convention in Dallas — citing CBC’s longstanding policy against referring to the 9/11 attacks as “terrorism” without attribution. CBC reversed the policy last week following widespread backlash, but that apparently wasn’t enough for the RNC, which reportedly called allowing CBC to attend an “insult” to the victims of 9/11. CBC says it is disappointed and hopes the decision will be reconsidered. 😂

4:59 PM⚖️ ONE EXTRA DAY IN JAIL FOR ANTISEMITIC THREAT A Toronto woman convicted of threatening to cut off a Jewish Crown attorney’s “big Jewish nose” inside a downtown courthouse has been sentenced to just one additional day in jail — despite the Crown seeking six months. Keiosha Ross, 42, also received 18 months’ probation. The judge called the threat “unquestionably antisemitic,” but found that Ross is “profoundly unwell” and that her mental illness significantly reduced her moral responsibility. The judge acknowledged the sentence could appear to minimize antisemitism, but insisted it “should not be mistaken as softness on hate crimes.” Ross had already received credit for 12 days spent in custody. She is currently back behind bars over separate allegations stemming from bizarre conduct during her sentencing hearing. 8:53 PM🇺🇸✡️ INSIDE TODAY’S HISTORIC WHITE HOUSE MEETING WITH LEADING RABBONIM New details are emerging from today’s extraordinary meeting between prominent Rabbonim and senior White House officials — including a private meeting with President Donald Trump. 🎙️ Yossi Gestetner, who attended the meeting, shared several fascinating behind-the-scenes details with Kol Mevaser immediately afterward: 🔹 The two Satmar Rebbes warmly greeted one another and exchanged brachos upon arriving. Reb Ahron also wished his brother Reb Zalmen Leib Mazel Tov on a grandchild’s engagement finalized the night before. 🔹 Vice President JD Vance joined midway, personally greeting those around the table and praising the Jewish community’s emphasis on family and education. 🔹 Vance also asked about the different-colored bekitches worn by the Rebbes. 🔹 In another lighter moment, President Trump reportedly looked at the two Satmar Rebbes and asked if they were twins. They responded that they were brothers. 🔹 A major topic raised was the treatment and conditions of Jewish prisoners in federal and state prisons across the country. 🔹 Satmar Rebbe Reb Ahron later met privately with President Trump for roughly 10 minutes, together with Jared Kushner, before the other Rabbonim were brought into the Oval Office. 🔹 In the Oval Office, Reb Ahron gave President Trump a bracha, which Rabbi Segedin translated for the president. Congressman Mike Lawler and Jared Kushner were also among those present. An extraordinary glimpse behind the scenes of a historic gathering at the White House.

1:43 AM✨ A POWERFUL AND EMOTIONAL MOMENT A WEEK BEFORE ROSH HASHANAH ✨ A deeply moving moment took place last night at The Israeli Centre, during a special pre-Rosh Hashanah gathering with Rabbi Moshe Kanner, shlita, who shared words of inspiration and chizuk with those in attendance. During the evening, Shmuel made a remarkable commitment: to put on tefillin every single day for the rest of his life. To mark the occasion, he was presented with a beautiful new pair of tefillin — an emotional moment that brought tears to the eyes of those present. With Rosh Hashanah just a week away, there could hardly have been a more powerful sight than witnessing a fellow Jew take upon himself a mitzvah that will accompany him for the rest of his life. ❤️

1:14 AM🚨✡️ CHOW OPTS To SKIP ANTISEMITISM DEBATE — WHAT MESSAGE DOES THAT SEND TORONTO’S JEWISH COMMUNITY? Mayor Olivia Chow has opted out of a major mayoral debate focused specifically on antisemitism, hate and public safety — and her explanation is raising eyebrows. The Sept. 8 debate, organized by Jewish Lawyers of Canada, has been in the works for weeks. The organization says it had been communicating with Chow’s team since Aug. 7 — and that her campaign never raised a scheduling problem connected to her campaign launch. Now, Chow’s team says she won’t attend because her official re-election campaign launches on Sept. 9 — literally one day later. Meanwhile, her opponents Brad Bradford and Chris Alexander are showing up. And when the Toronto Star asked whether the involvement of moderator Jesse Brown — a vocal critic of Chow’s record on antisemitism — played a role in her decision, her spokesperson reportedly did not answer the question. Brown says he would have stepped aside if that was preventing her participation. At some point, Toronto’s Jewish community is entitled to ask a very simple question: Does our community actually matter to Mayor Chow? With Toronto’s Jewish community facing an extraordinary level of antisemitism, the mayor was given an opportunity to stand before Jewish Torontonians, defend her record, answer difficult questions and explain what she intends to do. She chose not to show up. Whatever explanation City Hall offers, the message many Jewish Torontonians will hear is painfully clear: Our concerns simply aren’t important enough to warrant showing up. That should concern every Jewish voter in Toronto.
