9:31 PM🕯️ RAV YOSEF WEINREB ZT”L (1869–1942) Toronto’s First Chief Rabbi and Founding Rav of Shomrai Shabbos-Chevra Mishnayos Today, 4 Cheshvan, marks the 84th yahrtzeit of Rav Yosef Weinreb zt”l, a pioneering figure in Toronto's Orthodox Jewish history. Born in Busk, Galicia, Rav Weinreb received semichah from three of the great Torah luminaries of his generation: the Belzer Rov, the Brezaner Rov — Rav Sholom Mordechai HaKohen Schwadron (the Maharsham) — and the Lemberger Rov. After serving as rav in Iași, Romania, he came to Toronto in 1900 at the urging of his brother-in-law, Reb Binyamin Kurtz, to lead the young Shomrai Shabbos congregation. He subsequently became recognized as Toronto's first Chief Rabbi. For more than four decades, Rav Weinreb guided his kehillah as it grew from its early home on Chestnut Street to its later location at Brunswick and Sussex. Known affectionately as the Galitzianer Rav, he played an important role in establishing the foundations of Orthodox Jewish life in Toronto, including mikveh facilities, kashrus supervision, and the Chevra Kadisha. Rav Weinreb arrived in Canada as a widower with two daughters. His daughter Malka (Mollie) married Reb Pesach Edell; their son, Sol Edell, became a prominent Toronto Jewish communal leader. His daughter Perel (Lillian Leah) married Rav Menachem Mendel Perr, a longtime rov in Queens, New York. Their son was Rav Yechiel Yitzchok Perr zt”l, the renowned founder and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Derech Ayson in Far Rockaway. In Toronto, Rav Weinreb remarried Freyda Kurtz, and they had three additional children: Soore Ratze, Sol, and Ruth. Rav Weinreb was niftar on 4 Cheshvan 5703 (1942) and was laid to rest at Toronto's Jones Avenue Cemetery. More than eight decades after his petirah, his legacy lives on through the institutions he helped establish, the kehillah he nurtured, and the generations of Torah leadership descended from him. יהי זכרו ברוך.

3:35 PM🗳️ BRADFORD PRESSES CHOW ON CITY FINANCES IN HEATED MAYORAL DEBATE With Election Day just 11 days away, Mayor Olivia Chow and challenger Brad Bradford clashed Thursday night over city finances, housing and affordability. One particularly pointed exchange came when Bradford challenged Chow to explain the difference between Toronto’s capital and operating budgets. Political commentator Jacob Citron of AccordingTo.ca, who attended the debate, said Chow struggled with the question and that Bradford dominated the second half, particularly on policy specifics. Citron also criticized Chow for suggesting Bradford's proposals could jeopardize Toronto's drinking water, calling the accusation baseless. He reported repeated cheering from Chow supporters despite warnings from moderator Steve Paikin, although Bradford supporters also occasionally interrupted.
4:13 PM“WE'RE JEWS IN JUDEA!” — NETANYAHU FIRES BACK AT OBAMA Former U.S. President Barack Obama has sparked controversy after declaring in Belfast that Jews seeking refuge from persecution “took land off people” and “were excessive.” He also argued that Israel had “ceded moral ground.” Prime Minister Netanyahu responded forcefully: “Our history is not a colonial enterprise. Our land is not stolen land.” The truth is, the ultimate response comes from the very first Rashi in the Torah. Rashi explains that the Torah begins with Creation so that when the nations accuse the Jewish people of stealing Eretz Yisroel, they can respond: “כל הארץ של הקדוש ברוך הוא היא, הוא בראה ונתנה לאשר ישר בעיניו.” “The entire earth belongs to Hashem. He created it and gave it to whomever He deemed appropriate.” And the historical record reinforces the Jewish people's ancient connection to the land: 📜 Rav Yehuda Halevi left Spain in the 12th century and journeyed toward Eretz Yisroel, centuries before modern Zionism. 📜 The Ramban arrived in Yerushalayim in 1267 and helped revive Jewish life. 📜 The Arizal and the great mekubalim transformed Tzefas into a world centre of Torah in the 1500s. 📜 The Or HaChaim HaKadosh, followed by the talmidim of the Baal Shem Tov and Vilna Gaon, came to Eretz Yisroel generations before modern Zionism. 📜 Sir Moses Montefiore legally purchased land outside Yerushalayim in 1855. 📜 Mark Twain, visiting in 1867, documented the Jewish population of Yerushalayim in his travel account, The Innocents Abroad. Long before 1948, long before the Holocaust, and long before modern Zionism, Jews were living in Eretz Yisroel, learning Torah and building communities. The historical record challenges any account that treats the Jewish connection to Eretz Yisroel as a modern, colonial enterprise.

9:07 PM🕯️ Twilight Friday Night, the debut single from Aron Gerstel. Aron brings the warmth of a heartfelt baal tefillah and the artistry of a trained dramatic tenor to his first original composition. A year in the making, its lyrics distill the mystical Rozo D’Shabbos into song, tracing the thread between the setting sun, the emotions it stirs, and the transformation that comes through Kabbalas Shabbos. Music of joy and longing, giving voice to a yearning as old as Jewish song itself: for redemption, for connection. 12:16 AM🚨 TORONTO 18 TERROR PLOT RINGLEADER GRANTED FULL PAROLE Zakaria Amara, one of the masterminds behind the notorious 2006 Toronto 18 terrorist plot, has been granted full parole after authorities concluded he no longer exhibits extremist beliefs. Amara, now 41, helped organize a jihadist plot to detonate truck bombs at major Toronto targets, including the Toronto Stock Exchange, CSIS headquarters and a military base. The plot was foiled in June 2006 before the attacks could be carried out. Amara pleaded guilty and received a life sentence. After four years on supervised day parole, the Parole Board of Canada determined that he had successfully distanced himself from extremist ideology and demonstrated significant rehabilitation. 🤦♂️ He will now be permitted to live independently while remaining subject to conditions, including counselling, financial monitoring, restrictions on internet use and prohibitions on associating with extremists.

4:12 PM🚨 TRUMP ENDORSES NETANYAHU FOR RE-ELECTION — WARNS IRAN U.S. MAY “FINISH THE JOB” To the Great People of Israel: Bibi Netanyahu has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its 51 year old chant, “Death to Israel, Death to America! We will destroy the Little Satan and the Big Satan.” What Country can survive when things such as this are allowed to be said, because eventually, they always end up being true? It would have been only a question of time until Iran would have put that ominous phrase into effect, but they have been systematically destroyed, both Militarily and Financially, and unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job. If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so. Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived! I have watched Bibi under the most trying of times. Normal men or women in such situations would have wilted under the pressure — But Bibi did not wilt, he actually got stronger, and maintains that same Strength today. This is the kind of Partner that the United States of America is demanding of Israel, a Country for which it has done so much. Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel. BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN! Thank you for your attention to this matter. DONALD J. TRUMP PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ( TS: Oct 18 2026, 10:45 AM ET )

7:26 PM🚖🤖 DRIVERLESS TAXIS ARE COMING TO TORONTO — BUT IS THE CITY READY? Last Friday we reported on Waymo's plan to bring its self-driving taxis to Toronto by 2028. But the ambitious plan raises some serious questions: ❄️ Can driverless cars handle Toronto’s snowstorms, icy roads and unpredictable winter conditions? 🚦 Who gets a ticket when there's no driver? 🔒 What about passenger privacy? With cameras and sensors monitoring the ride, who has access to the recordings and personal data? ⚖️ And are Ontario's laws even ready for this technology? With City Hall weighing in and the province facing regulatory decisions, Toronto could soon find itself at the centre of a major transportation revolution. 🔎 The Toronto Scoop takes a closer look at what's coming — and whether Toronto is ready. 👉 https://www.thetorontoscoop.com/news/driverless-taxis-are-coming-to-toronto-but-is-the-city-ready

9:28 PM🕯️ 93RD YAHRZEIT OF RAV MEIR SHAPIRO ZT”L — THE VISIONARY WHO UNITED KLAL YISROEL THROUGH TORAH Today, 7 Cheshvan, marks the 93rd yahrtzeit of Rav Yehuda Meir Shapiro zt”l (1887–1933), the legendary Lubliner Rav, founder of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin and the driving force behind the worldwide Daf Yomi movement. Born in Shotz, Bukovina (present-day Romania), Rav Meir Shapiro displayed extraordinary brilliance from childhood, earning the title of der Shotzer Illui. He studied under his grandfather, Rav Shmuel Yitzchak Schor, the Minchas Shai, and developed a close relationship with the Chortkover Rebbe, becoming deeply rooted in the Chassidic world. His phenomenal memory, penetrating intellect and exceptional oratorical abilities quickly established him as one of the most promising young Torah personalities of his generation. 📖 A Rav, Rosh Yeshiva and Communal Leader Beginning in his twenties, Rav Meir Shapiro served as Rav in several prominent communities, including Galina, Sanok and Piotrkow, before ultimately becoming Rav of Lublin. But his influence extended far beyond the walls of the beis medrash. A gifted public speaker and fearless advocate for Yiddishkeit, he became a leading figure in Agudas Yisroel and served in the Polish parliament from 1922 to 1927, defending Jewish interests during a period of growing antisemitism. He was a rare combination of towering talmid chacham, dynamic communal leader, gifted organizer and visionary builder. 🌍 The Revolutionary Idea of Daf Yomi In 1923, at the first Knessiah Gedolah of Agudas Yisroel in Vienna, Rav Meir Shapiro presented an extraordinary proposal: Jews throughout the world would learn the same daf of Gemara each day, completing Shas together every seven and a half years. He envisioned a Jew in one country being able to travel halfway around the world, enter a beis medrash and immediately join fellow Jews learning the very same daf. The first Daf Yomi cycle began on Rosh Hashanah 5684 (1923). More than a century later, his vision continues to unite Jews across continents, communities and generations. 🏛️ A Palace for Torah Rav Meir Shapiro's other monumental achievement was the establishment of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, which opened in 1930. At a time when many yeshiva bochurim endured difficult living conditions, he envisioned a magnificent institution where Torah scholars would be treated with the dignity befitting their calling. The imposing building included spacious study halls, a major Torah library and residential facilities for its talmidim. His message was unmistakable: Torah deserved nothing less than the finest. 💔 A Life Cut Tragically Short On 7 Cheshvan 5694 (1933), Rav Meir Shapiro passed away following a brief illness. He was only 46 years old. His sudden petirah sent shockwaves throughout Jewish communities in Poland and beyond. He and his Rebbetzin, Malka Tova, had no children of their own. Yet his spiritual legacy would become immeasurable. In 1958, his remains were transferred from Lublin to Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.

Earlier in the day, Rabbi Grossman participated in a special Lead, Light and Learn gathering with students from three local yeshivos: Yeshivat Or Chaim, Nefesh Dovid, and Yeshivat Keser Yosef. One of the evening's most moving moments featured a panel of three young men, including two graduates of Migdal Ohr's Zoharim program, who shared their personal journeys of overcoming troubled childhoods, substance abuse, and adversity to rebuild their lives. 6:25 PM🇨🇦 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SOFTENS STANCE ON ANTI-ZIONISM FOLLOWING MUSLIM GROUP'S COMPLAINT The federal government is facing questions over its position on anti-Zionism after Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree qualified an earlier government statement linking anti-Zionism to antisemitism. On September 24, Public Safety Canada published a report describing anti-Zionism as “a contemporary manifestation of antisemitism.” The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) subsequently objected to the government's characterization. In an October 16 letter responding to the NCCM, Anandasangaree adopted more qualified language, stating that denying Jewish people the right to self-determination “may, depending on the context, be considered a manifestation of antisemitism.” He further clarified that criticism of Zionism, Israeli government policies or Israel itself should not automatically be considered antisemitic. Scoop2Cents: the times we live in are confusing. Considering that "Zionism" means different things to different people, the same follows for "anti-Zionism." As religious Jews, we are far less concerned with our "rights" than we are with our responsibilities. Separately, the Satmar Rebbe and the leaders of Agudas Yisroel opposed ideologies referred to as "Zionism," yet they were most definitely not antisemitic. However, antisemites, who hold Israel to a different standard than any other country solely due to its Jewish identity, most definitely are.

We take everything that feels overwhelming and turn it into a time-bound, measurable plan that's actually clear from the start, with a road map on how to get your incompletions done. • Wills and Powers of Attorney • Save tax. • Build liquidity. • Maximize what you leave behind. • Protect family. • Keep more of what you've earned with the people and causes who matter most. Not complicated. Just rarely explained well or comprehensively. If you've been meaning to get this sorted and haven't because it felt like too much to untangle, that's exactly where we start. What's the one incompletion you've been putting off the longest? Reach out to an advisor, or call us to help get you the peace of mind in knowing that everything is in its right place. Less Tax. More Legacy. 📞 Mark Halpern, CFP, TEP, MFA-P 416-871-4357 | [email protected] 📞 Reuben Menzelefsky, CFP 647-740-3898 | [email protected]
