4:50 PM🇺🇸 - Clark Calls Midterms A Referendum On Trump’s Economy House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark said today that voters have 47 days to deliver a verdict on President Trump’s record. Clark told colleagues Republicans made two core promises: lower costs on day one, and no new wars. “Both of those promises have been broken,” she said. She framed the November 3 midterms as a referendum on what she called “47’s economic failure.” The clip, posted by C-SPAN, is already circulating as Democrats try to keep the race focused on prices and the ongoing Iran war.
5:03 PM🇮🇱 🇺🇸 - Danon To Mamdani: Focus On The City As Netanyahu Comes To New York Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will come to New York next week to address the UN General Assembly. In a statement posted today, Danon told Mayor Zohran Mamdani to stop inciting against Israel and instead focus on running the city. “Take care of the city’s functioning and the security of residents and visitors arriving next week,” Danon said. Netanyahu is expected in New York from September 23 to 25, with his UN speech slated for Thursday, September 24. The visit comes after months of tension with City Hall. Mamdani previously said Netanyahu should be arrested if he entered New York, then later acknowledged the city does not have the legal authority to do that. This week, Mamdani said he does not plan to attend anti-Netanyahu protests, while adding that New Yorkers have the right to demonstrate. Israeli officials say they expect intense protests around the UN visit and that security will be in place. UN high-level week begins Tuesday. Traffic, closures, and extra police presence around Midtown and the UN are expected as world leaders arrive.

6:30 PM🇮🇱 - Palestinian Tanker Filmed Dumping Sewage Into Nahal Hebron Near Otniel Video footage shows a sewage tanker discharging large volumes of wastewater into Nahal Hebron near Otniel. The clip, first posted by Facebook user Maher Rayan and later removed, shows a man standing beside the stream as a red tanker releases foamy, murky liquid into the flowing water. The vehicle has a Palestinian license plate registered in the Hebron area. A phone number on the tanker matches a sewage service company in al Dhahiriya. Geolocation matches the reported discharge point. Earlier satellite imagery showed another tanker at the same spot. Nahal Hebron has long carried untreated wastewater and stone-industry sludge south from the Hebron region toward Israeli communities and the Negev. The flow also raises concern for the Mountain Aquifer that supplies both Israelis and Palestinians.
6:59 PM🇮🇱🇺🇸 - Danon Tells Syrian UN Ambassador To Watch Fauda Season 5 Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon told Syria’s ambassador at the Security Council today that he should open Netflix and watch Fauda Season 5. Danon said Syrian Ambassador Ibrahim Olabi “apparently forgot what happened on October 7.” The comment came during Thursday’s Security Council session, as Danon has been pressing Syria over threats Israel says are still coming from Syrian territory. Fauda Season 5 dropped on Netflix last week. Two episodes deal directly with the October 7 massacre. Danon posted the clip himself after the meeting.

9:41 PM🇺🇸 - Sid Rosenberg Says He “Can’t Stand” Tucker Carlson WABC morning host Sid Rosenberg went after Tucker Carlson again, saying he “can’t stand” him and blasting Carlson’s comments on Israel, President Trump, and U.S. foreign policy. Rosenberg, who hosts Sid & Friends in the Morning on 77 WABC, has been hitting Carlson for months over what he calls constant attacks on Israel and on Trump’s Middle East policy. The New York radio host has also been warning Vice President JD Vance to distance himself from Carlson, saying the friendship is a problem with pro-Israel Trump voters heading into 2028. Trump recently told Rosenberg on air that he “dumped” Carlson months ago after what he called “very bad” comments. Carlson has repeatedly criticized U.S. support for Israel and Trump’s handling of the Iran war. Rosenberg has called that line of attack dangerous and antisemitic. VINnews’s Take: This is no longer a media feud. It is a live fight inside MAGA over Israel, loyalty to Trump, and who gets to speak for the right.

3:05 AM🇺🇸 - Fetterman Slams Democrats Over Hasan Piker Comments Sen. John Fetterman is calling out fellow Democrats for campaigning with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker after Piker said America is “worse than Al Qaeda.” In a Fox News interview, Fetterman said Piker “just declared that we are worse than Al Qaeda and Democrats are campaigning with him, defending him.” Piker made the comments in an Axios interview Thursday. Asked if the United States is worse than Al Qaeda, he said, “Pound for pound as far as the number of deaths, yes. We have caused tremendous terror all around the world.” Piker previously said “America deserved 9/11.” He also campaigned with Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed during the primary. El-Sayed now says he does not agree with Piker’s latest remarks and does not plan to campaign with him this fall. He has not fully cut ties. Fetterman has been pressing the issue for weeks, including a $50,000 dare for El-Sayed to hold a 9/11 rally with Piker. VIN’s Take: Fetterman is drawing a hard line inside his own party. The question now is whether other Democrats follow him or keep treating this as a sideshow.

2:36 PM🇺🇸 - Rapaport Says He’s “Absolutely Considering” A 2029 NYC Mayoral Run Actor and comedian Michael Rapaport says he is seriously weighing a 2029 campaign for mayor of New York City. In a new Fox News interview, the Upper East Side native said he is “not playing around” and that Mayor Zohran Mamdani “must be removed from office.” Rapaport said the idea is about the city, not ego. He also said he would step aside for any candidate he believes has a stronger shot at winning. This is not his first time floating the run. He first talked about a 2029 bid earlier this year, shortly after Mamdani took office. No campaign papers have been filed. The next mayoral election is still more than two years away. VIN’s Take: New Yorkers have heard celebrity mayor talk before. The only question that matters later is whether this stays a street interview or turns into an actual campaign.
3:43 PM🇺🇸 - Hundreds Of Jewish Students Daven Outside Gracie Mansion Hundreds of Jewish students and community members gathered outside Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s official residence at Gracie Mansion Friday morning. Students from Ramaz on the Upper East Side and SAR High School in Riverdale davened Shacharit on the sidewalk, wearing tallit and tefillin. Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and other synagogues also joined. Organizers described it as a show of faith, unity, and Jewish pride. Ramaz leadership told parents the message was simple: “We’re here. We’re proud. We aren’t going anywhere.” SAR principal Rabbi Binyamin Krauss put it this way: “We’re here. We’re Jewish. We want to be safe and express our Zionism.” The gathering comes days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Mamdani said earlier this week he welcomed the students and that they had space to gather outside Gracie Mansion. He also said he would likely be elsewhere in the city at the time. Some parents and alumni from the two schools had asked administrators to cancel the event, arguing it risked turning a school morning into a political demonstration. The schools went ahead with it. VIN’s Take: Whatever you call it, a vigil or a protest, the pictures from this morning were clear. Jewish kids standing outside City Hall’s front door, davening in public, and saying they are not going anywhere.
3:56 PM🇺🇸 - NJ Gov. Sherrill: High Holiday Worship Should Be About Faith, Not Fear New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill released a High Holidays message to Jewish New Jerseyans, saying families should be focused on their faith, not their safety. Sherrill pointed to another $7 million this year for the state’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which helps houses of worship and other nonprofits pay for security personnel and physical security upgrades. She said no one should be afraid to worship how and where they choose. “Hatred and bigotry have no place in the Garden State,” she said. The state program is separate from federal nonprofit security grants. Applications for the current $7 million state round were due September 11.

4:52 PM🇺🇸 - Diesel Hits Record $6.45 As Gas Nears $4.50 The national diesel average just set a new record at about $6.45 a gallon. Regular gas is sitting near $4.47 and climbing toward $4.50. The spike is being tied to disrupted shipping through the Middle East and damage to a major Saudi pipeline that normally moves crude around the Strait of Hormuz. Crude is back above $100 a barrel, and diesel is taking the hardest hit at the pump. That matters locally because diesel is what moves groceries, school buses, construction equipment, and freight. When it jumps this fast, the cost shows up on shelves and invoices, not just at the truck stop. Check the board before you fill up. Prices are moving overnight.

7:54 PM🇺🇸 - New Report Says Fed Knew About SVB Risks A Year Before Collapse A new independent review says Federal Reserve supervisors knew, or should have known, about Silicon Valley Bank’s biggest weaknesses as early as March 2022. They still did not take prompt, decisive action before the bank failed in March 2023. Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman outlined the draft findings Friday. The review was commissioned by Bowman and prepared by Starling Advisory Group. According to the report, SVB failed because of several problems at once. Unrealized losses on its securities portfolio exceeded its capital. About 94 percent of its deposits were uninsured and concentrated in venture-backed tech companies. The bank also was not ready to borrow from the Fed’s discount window when it needed cash. The review says those delays were not caused by the 2018 regulatory tailoring law or by a former Fed vice chair telling staff to ease up. A bigger factor was a culture of risk aversion. Staff believed it was personally safer to do nothing unless they were certain the call was exactly right. The report also rejects the claim that social media triggered the run. An analysis found most of that chatter came after the failure was already inevitable. Bowman said the Fed has already issued new supervisory principles meant to force faster action when a bank’s problems are clear.

1:07 AM🇺🇸 - Trump Cuts Camp David Trip Short And Returns To White House President Trump is back at the White House Saturday evening after leaving Camp David a day early. The administration is weighing its next move in the war with Iran, now in its seventh month. Trump is heading into a major week in New York, where the Iran conflict is expected to dominate conversations as world leaders gather for the U.N. General Assembly. Iran says it has sent conditions through Qatar to end the fighting and is waiting for Trump’s response. Those conditions, according to Iranian officials, include an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and an end to the U.S. naval blockade. Trump has said he is approaching a “big decision” on whether to resume large-scale strikes. He has also said Tehran still wants a deal. 2:10 AM🇺🇸 - Ed Sheeran Addresses Tour Fallout At Lincoln Financial Field Ed Sheeran took the stage Saturday night at the Linc for his first show since Macklemore was pulled from the Loop Tour. He opened alone, after support acts and his backing band dropped out following the New Jersey concerts where Macklemore said “Free Palestine.” Sheeran told the crowd he was “so, so sorry,” said he never wanted to be an activist musician, and added that he wants his shows to be about unity, not division. Outside the stadium, protesters waved flags and chanted near Broad and Pattison as fans headed in. The start time was pushed to 8 p.m. after the lineup collapsed, and Sheeran played the night as a one-man show. He called the Oct. 7 attack in Israel horrific and described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate. He also said he is talking with people across the spectrum about how to help civilians caught in the conflict. VIN’s Take: The music started. The argument outside the gates did not.
2:30 AM🇮🇱 - 150,000 Pack The Kotel For Final Selichot Before Yom Kippur Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined a massive Motzei Shabbos crowd at the Western Wall tonight for the last central Selichot before Yom Kippur. About 150,000 people filled the Kotel plaza and the surrounding area. Also there were Chief Rabbi Kalman Meir Ber, Rishon LeTzion Rav Dovid Yosef, Kotel Rav Shmuel Rabinowitz, and Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion. Former hostages Eliya Cohen, Rom Braslavski, Elkana Bohbot, and Ohad Ben Ami, along with Nova survivor Ziv Abud, received a loud ovation from the crowd. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation said nearly two million people came to Selichot at the Kotel over Elul and the Aseres Yemei Teshuvah. Yom Kippur begins Sunday evening. 3:13 AM🇮🇱 - Huckabee: Israel Ready For Security Deal With Saudi Arabia U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee says Jerusalem is ready for a security agreement with Riyadh and would welcome Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords. “There is no hesitation on this matter from the Israeli side. The hesitation is on the Saudi side.” Huckabee said Israel and Saudi Arabia already have strong military-to-military ties and intelligence cooperation. “Everyone will benefit,” he said, if those relations deepen. The comments came in a Sept. 17 interview with The Jerusalem Post and The Media Line, as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia continue and U.S.–Saudi security coordination expands.
