I usually don’t share emails like this.. but this one is just wild to me. First of all.. being compared to Tyler Oliveira and being told we “hate” the frum community is honestly crazy. If you’ve followed Meaningful Minute for even a little bit.. you know who we are. You know what we stand for. You know how much we love this community and how much of what we do is literally about showing the beauty in it. I don’t think I need to make a whole case for that. But here’s the part people may not know.. While we were filming in Lakewood.. at least 20 people who walked by said some version of the same thing to us. “I’d never go on camera.. my kids wouldn’t get into school.” Now.. nobody has to go on camera. At all. Nobody owes us an interview. That wasn’t the point. The question was simply.. why does that fear exist? Why would someone think that appearing on camera.. answering a normal question.. could somehow affect their child getting into school? That’s what we asked Rabbi Shoff about. That’s it. It wasn’t an attack on Lakewood. It wasn’t an attack on the yeshivish world. It was a question based on what people in Lakewood themselves were telling us over and over while we were standing there. And listen.. I love so much about Lakewood. The Torah. The chesed. The families. The amount of good that happens there is unbelievable. But loving a community doesn’t mean we can’t ask an uncomfortable question about it. You can disagree with the question. You can disagree with Rabbi Shoff’s answer. You can say the fear is exaggerated. That’s all fair. But calling it antisemitic.. hateful.. or comparing Meaningful Minute to someone whose whole thing is attacking communities.. Come on.
