🇮🇱🇺🇸 ISRAIR ARRIVES AT JFK FOR THE FIRST TIME Video: Israir A330 taxiing to the gate after its first-ever arrival at JFK — unlike Arkia, whose passengers need to be bussed, Israir passengers go directly from the aircraft to the terminal building. At Ben Gurion, Israir is using the new G-area downstairs check-in section, helping passengers avoid the major lines in the main departure hall. Passengers reported a very pleasant inflight experience, with the A330 providing a comfortable widebody experience on the new route. The main drawback reported was the limited entertainment system, which did not even include a flight map. Israir is operating from Terminal 8 at JFK, separate from EL AL’s Terminal 4 operation.

An El Al Boeing 777-258ER operating LY324 from Paris to Tel Aviv on September 7 became significantly misaligned with Runway 30 during a visual approach. The aircraft descended to around 600 feet (183 meters) before the crew discontinued the approach and performed a Go-Around. The 777 repositioned for another approach and landed safely about 20 minutes later.

Ben Gurion Airport has announced planned overnight closures for routine maintenance and infrastructure work. Flight operations will be suspended from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM on the following dates: Oct 16, Nov 20, Dec 18, Jan 15, Feb 12, and Mar 12. Passengers traveling on these dates are advised to check their flight times directly with their airline.

🇮🇱 CARGO TERMINAL MAY OPERATE ON YOM KIPPUR While Israel comes to a standstill for Yom Kippur, Maman’s cargo terminal at Ben Gurion will continue operating in a limited capacity. A small team, mostly foreign workers, will remain on duty to handle refrigerated and sensitive cargo and prepare shipments for flights after YT. The decision has sparked criticism, with MK Avi Maoz calling on Transport Minister Miri Regev to intervene. Maoz said: “It cannot be that in the State of Israel, workers will be required to report to work on Yom Kippur, the holiest day for the Jewish people, in order to complete operational backlogs.”

🇱🇹🇺🇸 KLASJET GETS FAA APPROVAL FOR U.S. OPERATIONS Lithuanian charter airline KlasJet has received FAA approval to operate its Boeing 737-800s on flights involving the U.S. The approval allows KlasJet to provide ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance & Insurance) services — basically, airlines can bring in a complete aircraft with pilots and crew when they need extra capacity. This can be useful during busy seasons, aircraft maintenance or unexpected disruptions.

🇺🇸 MEDICAL EMERGENCY ON UNITED UA2865 United UA2865, a Boeing 737-800 from Santa Barbara (SBA) to Denver (DEN), had a medical emergency onboard after a passenger suffered severe shortness of breath. Flight attendants provided supplemental oxygen and onboard medical assistance while the aircraft continued normally to Denver. The flight landed at DEN, where emergency medical services were waiting to meet the aircraft.

🇺🇸 NEW AIR FORCE ONE TO POWER UP THIS YEAR The U.S. Air Force has confirmed that the first Boeing-built VC-25B is expected to power up before the end of 2026. The new Air Force One is scheduled for its first flight in 2027. Delivery of the aircraft is currently expected in 2028.

🇸🇪 SAS A320NEO REPORTS CRACKED COCKPIT SCREEN SAS SK867 from Stockholm to Oslo reported a cracked Electronic Logbook (ELB) display in the cockpit. The screen remained operational, but the crew flagged sharp glass edges as a potential hazard. The A320neo, registered SE-RUP, landed safely at Oslo shortly afterward for maintenance inspection.

🇺🇸 MIAMI AIRPORT RUNWAY REOPENS AFTER FATAL 21 AIR CRASH Miami International Airport’s Runway 8R/26L has fully reopened after crews removed the wreckage of the Amazon 767 that overran Runway 12/30. Runway 12/30 remains closed for inspections and repairs following the crash that killed five people. The accident has also raised questions about EMAS (Engineered Materials Arresting System) — a specially designed safety bed at the end of a runway. It uses crushable blocks that collapse under an aircraft’s weight, acting like a giant emergency brake to rapidly slow an aircraft during an overrun. MIA does not currently have EMAS, instead relying on a 1,000-foot grass and soil safety area beyond the runway. Experts note that EMAS might have significantly slowed the 767, although it is impossible to know whether it would have prevented the tragedy.

🇩🇪 CONDOR EXPANDS US CONNECTIVITY WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES Just weeks after returning to Israel, Condor has announced a new interline partnership with American Airlines. Passengers will be able to book connecting itineraries on one ticket, with baggage checked through to their final destination. 🇮🇱🇺🇸 RAMON AIRPORT TO HALT NIGHT FLIGHTS Ramon Airport is set to operate only during daytime hours starting November 1, potentially affecting around 25 U.S. Air Force tanker aircraft based there. U.S. Central Command has reportedly requested clarification, while Israeli officials cited staffing shortages. The change could force the U.S. military to find alternative solutions for nighttime refueling operations from Israel.

The Israel Airports Authority issued a warning today about private valet parking services operating at Ben Gurion Airport. The pilot was found conscious and alert and remains in stable condition. Possible bird strike is being examined as a potential factor, though the cause has not been confirmed. No ground injuries or civilian property damage were reported; an investigation is underway.

🇺🇸 AMERICAN AIRLINES DIVERTS TO LONDON American Airlines AA293, Delhi–New York JFK, diverted overnight to London Heathrow after a medical emergency developed mid-flight over Italy. The Boeing 787-9 landed safely on Runway 27L at 4:15 AM, with medical personnel meeting the aircraft at the gate.

HOUTHI STRIKE HITS RIYADH AIRPORT Houthi strikes targeted the Riyadh area overnight, with a major fire and huge plume of black smoke rising from a fuel storage depot at King Khalid International Airport (RUH). Flames were seen near the airport’s fuel tanks. Saudi Arabia issued a “hostile aerial threat” alert for Riyadh and Al-Kharj before an all-clear was issued. FlightRadar24 reported major disruption at RUH, including cancellations and lengthy delays.

📡 VIASAT BOOSTS INFLIGHT WI-FI Viasat’s new Viasat-3 F2 satellite is now in service over the USA, more than doubling network capacity. The upgrade is expected to improve reliability and speeds during busy periods for airlines including American, Delta and JetBlue. Starlink may still lead on performance, but Viasat passengers should see a noticeable improvement as the new capacity rolls out.

🇳🇱🔥 KLM 777 DIVERTS AFTER POWER BANK FIRE KLM flight KL735 from Amsterdam to Curaçao returned to Amsterdam after a power bank caught fire in Business Class over the Atlantic. The fire caused significant burn and smoke damage around the seat and window area before the crew extinguished it. The passenger was reportedly former KLM CEO Camiel Eurlings, who was charging the power bank despite KLM’s rules. The aircraft landed safely after about 5½ hours in the air.

🇺🇸✈️ FIRST FULLY AUTONOMOUS CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT Yesterday, September 18, Joby Aviation completed the first-ever fully autonomous flight across the United States, covering 3,199 miles from California to North Carolina. The converted Cessna Caravan J208 autonomously handled taxiing, takeoff, navigation and landing, with zero control inputs from the onboard safety pilot. The US carriers say Chinese airlines benefit from shorter routes through Russian airspace, which US airlines cannot use. A4A is asking that the additional flights be treated as charters, rather than regular scheduled services. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 VIRGIN A330 RETURNS TO MANCHESTER Virgin Atlantic VS127 from Manchester (MAN) to New York JFK returned shortly after takeoff following a technical issue. The A330-300 G-VSXY “Beauty Queen” landed safely back at MAN about 41 minutes after departure. Some A330s cannot dump fuel, so the aircraft may need to hold and burn fuel before landing at a lower weight. Virgin confirmed the technical issue was resolved and the aircraft would refuel before continuing its journey.

🇺🇸 DELTA INTRODUCES NEW VIP A321NEO FOR NBA CHARTERS Delta has received its first VIP-configured Airbus A321neo, N701DH, replacing aging Boeing 757-200s used for NBA and other VIP charters. The new aircraft features just 90 seats — 16 lie-flat beds, 44 extra-legroom seats and 30 Main Cabin seats, with a custom interior designed for professional athletes. Delta plans to receive 14 of these A321neos, which will also be available for premium charter operations outside the NBA season.

Fuel was also observed discharging from the aircraft after landing; the cause of the fumes remains under investigation.

✈️ RUNWAY 972 NEWS EXCLUSIVE THE LAST PLANE IN ISRAEL’S SKY YESTERDAY If you were tracking Israel’s airspace yesterday afternoon, around 4:00 PM, after the skies officially closed for Yom Kippur, you may have noticed one aircraft still flying. It was a Cessna Citation Mustang (C510) — a calibration aircraft that spent about 2½ hours testing Israel’s aviation navigation systems, including ILS, VOR/DME and other signals used by pilots. After completing its checks, the aircraft landed around 5:00 PM — the final plane to land in Israel before the skies went completely silent for Yom Kippur.
