A fire erupted inside a sixth-floor apartment at 9949 Shore Road early Monday morning, sending flames and heavy smoke pouring from multiple windows as FDNY crews battled the blaze. The Red Cross assisted two displaced families, including three adults and one child. Police said a person was found dead inside the building before the fire broke out and is believed to have died from natural causes, with authorities saying the death was unrelated to the blaze.

Three teenagers were killed and four others injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Belt Parkway late Tuesday night. The city says rental companies must honor reservations at the reserved price and clearly disclose all fees and conditions.

A state Public Health Committee voted today to advance the proposed merger between Maimonides Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals, despite significant opposition from community leaders and residents. The vote is not final approval, and additional regulatory steps still remain. Community leaders involved in the issue say the fight over the future of Maimonides is far from over.
