🚨 REPORT: CHRIS ALEXANDER EXPECTED TO DROP OUT OF TORONTO MAYORAL RACE Former federal cabinet minister Chris Alexander is expected to pull out of the Toronto mayoral race today, according to Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley, citing campaign sources. The development could have major implications for the race between Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford, with Alexander currently drawing roughly 9% support in the latest Liaison Strategies poll. Alexander's name will remain on the ballot because the formal withdrawal deadline has already passed.

🚨 REPORT: ISRAEL WAS PREPARED TO SHOOT DOWN HIJACKED FLYDUBAI FLIGHT Israel was prepared to shoot down Flydubai Flight 1073 — despite more than 150 Israelis being aboard — if the aircraft continued toward Israel during last week’s attempted hijacking, CBS News reports. After the plane suddenly plunged roughly 14,000 feet and the cockpit stopped responding, Israel reportedly feared a potential 9/11-style attack. 🇮🇱 Fighter jets were scrambled ✈️ Israeli airspace was closed 🚨 A command centre was activated Had the aircraft continued toward Israel, it could ultimately have been shot down on the prime minister’s authorization rather than risk it being used to strike Ben Gurion Airport or another target. The new details reveal just how close the incident came to an even greater catastrophe. הודו לה' כי טוב

A MESSAGE FROM BRAD BRADFORD FOR THE SCOOP COMMUNITY

🕯️ 25 TISHREI: THE CHASAM SOFER, ZT”L — THE MAN WHO SHAPED A GENERATION Today, 25 Tishrei, marks the yahrtzeit of Rav Moshe Sofer, zt”l — the Chasam Sofer (1762–1839), one of the towering Torah leaders of the last several centuries. Born in Frankfurt, he was recognized as an extraordinary ilui from a young age. Among his rebbeim was Rav Pinchas Horowitz, the Hafla’ah, but perhaps the deepest influence upon him was his rebbe muvhak, Rav Nosson Adler, zt”l. The Chasam Sofer became extraordinarily attached to his rebbe, even following him when Rav Nosson Adler left Frankfurt. After serving as rov in several communities, the Chasam Sofer became Rav of Pressburg — today Bratislava — in 1806. Over the next 33 years, he became far more than the rov of one city. He became one of the central addresses for Torah Jewry across Central Europe. Questions poured in from communities far beyond Pressburg, and his rulings carried enormous authority. At a time when the Haskalah and emerging Reform movement were challenging traditional Jewish life, the Chasam Sofer became one of its most formidable defenders. His influence was multiplied through his yeshiva. What had numbered only several dozen talmidim grew under his leadership to hundreds, drawing young men from across Europe. His talmidim went on to become rabbanim and roshei yeshiva throughout Hungary and beyond, carrying his derech into scores of communities. The Chasam Sofer wasn't merely leading a community. He was shaping the men who would lead a generation. And all the while, he wrote prodigiously. His vast Torah output encompassed responsa across virtually every area of halachah, chiddushim on Shas, commentary on Chumash, derashos and much more. Nearly two centuries later, Shu”t Chasam Sofer remains a foundational work consulted by poskim throughout the Torah world. His famous expression became: “Chadash assur min haTorah” — “The new is forbidden by the Torah.” Originally a halachic phrase concerning chadash, the new grain crop, the Chasam Sofer famously employed it in his battle against religious innovations that he believed threatened Torah and mesorah. His son, Rav Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, the Ksav Sofer, succeeded him in Pressburg, continuing a remarkable dynasty of Torah leadership. The Chasam Sofer was niftar on 25 Tishrei 5600 (1839). Nearly two centuries later, his teshuvos are still opened by poskim, his Torah is still learned in batei medrash, and communities shaped by his talmidim continue to flourish. זכותו יגן עלינו ועל כל ישראל — יהי זכרו ברוך.

📰 170 GAZA “JOURNALISTS” WERE TERROR OPERATIVES? The IDF says 170 Palestinians presented as journalists were also members of Hamas, PIJ or other terror groups — including 17 who participated in Oct. 7. Critics are challenging the strength of Israel’s evidence for some names. But this much is already independently established: After Hamas & PIJ themselves identified some supposed “journalists” as combatants, the Committee to Protect Journalists reviewed its database and removed 22 people. Israel’s entire 170-person claim has not been independently verified — but the discovery of combatants within Gaza’s widely cited journalist casualty lists is no longer merely an Israeli allegation. 🔗 Read More at: https://www.thetorontoscoop.com/news/israel-says-170-gaza-journalists-were-terror-operatives-what-the-evidence-shows-and-why-the-claim-is-being-challenged

🚨 BREAKING: ISRAELI FLAGS SET ON FIRE OUTSIDE NORTH YORK CHURCH ON OCT. 7 ANNIVERSARY Toronto Police’s Hate Crime Unit is investigating after several Israeli flags were deliberately set on fire outside a North York church early Wednesday morning. Police were called to the Word of Faith International Christian Centre near Sunrise Ave. and O’Connor Dr. at approximately 1:30 a.m. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 7 — exactly three years after the Hamas massacre in Israel. Police have not yet confirmed a motive or announced any arrests. Mayoral candidate Brad Bradford condemned the incident as an “act of intimidation” targeting the Jewish community and local Christian worshippers. No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.

💔 KOL HAKAVOD, BAR. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL On October 7, 2023, Bar Kupershtein was working at the Nova festival when Hamas terrorists attacked. A trained medic, Bar could have fled. Instead, he stayed behind, repeatedly helping evacuate and treat the wounded under fire. He was eventually captured by Hamas and dragged into Gaza, where he would spend 738 days in captivity. Bar was finally freed on October 13, 2025. Now, three years after the massacre, Bar has returned to the Nova site — the place from which he was kidnapped. This time, he came wearing tefillin, reciting Shema Yisrael and davening l’ilui nishmas those murdered there on October 7. He called on other Jews to put on tefillin as well in their memory. From the site of unimaginable horror and captivity — a Jew stands once again, wrapped in tefillin, reciting שמע ישראל.

RAV AVIGDOR MILLER: THE FIRST MITZVAH — AND THE "WORK" OF GAN EDEN What was the first avodah given to Adam HaRishon? The Midrash says Hashem took Adam around Gan Eden and told him: “ראה מעשי כמה נאים ומשובחין הן” — “See My works, how beautiful and praiseworthy they are.” Rav Avigdor Miller explains: This wasn’t simply a tour. Adam’s first avodah was to open his eyes, see what Hashem had given him, and appreciate it. That also explains why Adam was placed in Gan Eden “לעבדה ולשמרה” — to work it and guard it. What work was necessary in Gan Eden? Everything grew by itself! The work was to keep appreciating Gan Eden after becoming accustomed to it. The first day was breathtaking. Then hergel — habit — begins to take over. Adam’s avodah, and ours, is to fight that familiarity and keep recognizing the Gan Eden we already have. Rav Avigdor Miller, Toras Avigdor – Bereishis

BREAKING: 76 RETIRED U.S. MILITARY OFFICERS REJECT GAZA GENOCIDE CLAIM On the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre, a group of 76 retired senior U.S. military officers and legal experts has issued a statement rejecting allegations that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. The signatories include 13 Generals, 27 Lieutenant Generals, 19 Major Generals and 5 Brigadier Generals. “We reject claims that Israel committed genocide in Gaza.” The statement warns that the implications extend well beyond Israel: “The precedent established today regarding Israel will shape the conditions under which American forces fight tomorrow.” The signatories argue that distorting the laws of war to support false genocide accusations could ultimately undermine the ability of the U.S. and other democracies to defend themselves while fighting enemies embedded among civilian populations. The statement was published by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA).

✈️ FLYDUBAI INCIDENT RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT COCKPIT SECURITY Reports surrounding the Flydubai Flight FZ1073 incident have renewed concerns about airline cockpit security, particularly the challenges posed by potential threats originating within the flight crew. According to media reports, aviation authorities in some countries are reviewing security procedures, including pilot background checks, cockpit access and measures intended to prevent unauthorized interference with flight operations. The incident has also drawn attention to reinforced cockpit doors, introduced after 9/11 to prevent unauthorized entry, but which can complicate intervention when a threat originates inside the cockpit. The central question: How can airlines protect pilots against outside intruders while also addressing potential threats from authorized crew members?

🇨🇦🇫🇷 MEANWHILE: FRANCE PRAISES CARNEY FOR STANDING UP TO TRUMP — AS FRANCE GRAPPLES WITH ITS OWN TURMOIL France's ambassador to Canada says Prime Minister Mark Carney is admired across Europe for standing up to President Donald Trump's “extremely radical” demands. The ambassador praised Carney's approach to Washington and called for closer cooperation between Canada and Europe. 🇫🇷 The timing is rather ironic. France is grappling with political instability, budgetary troubles and widespread unrest, while critics blame years of failed government policies for the country's mounting problems. Perhaps the mutual admiration has less to do with standing up to Trump — and more to do with a shared willingness to watch their respective countries burn to the ground. 🤦‍♂️ 📰 READ MORE: https://toronto.citynews.ca/2026/10/11/frances-envoy-says-carney-admired-for-response-to-extremely-radical-u-s/

🚨🇨🇦 PA BREAKS ELECTION PROMISE — WILL CANADA REVOKE PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD RECOGNITION? Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has postponed elections until September 2027, breaking a key commitment made before Canada recognized Palestinian statehood last year. 🌙 ROSH CHODESH — THE SIMCHA OF BEGINNING AGAIN In Mussaf of Rosh Chodesh, we say: ראשי חדשים לעמך נתת, זמן כפרה לכל תולדותם Hashem gave Klal Yisroel Rosh Chodesh as a zman kapparah. But why is Rosh Chodesh specifically a time of kapparah? Perhaps the answer lies in the very idea of hischadshus. In Kiddush Levanah, we say of Klal Yisroel: שהם עתידים להתחדש כמותה Klal Yisroel is compared to the moon, which gets smaller and smaller until it almost disappears, only to shine again. The same is true of a Yid's avodas Hashem. There are times when he falls short, when his enthusiasm fades, or when he feels distant from Hashem. But just as the moon's light is never lost forever, a Yid's connection to Hashem can always be restored. And perhaps that's the connection between kapparah and hischadshus. Kapparah removes what separates us from Hashem, allowing us to draw close to Him once again. And maybe that's the special simcha of Rosh Chodesh. We celebrate the moon not when it's full, but when its first sliver of light reappears. Because the greatest simcha isn't necessarily in how far we've come, but in knowing that no matter how far we've fallen, the way back to Hashem is always open. א גוט חודש! 🌙

🚨🇨🇦 MAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK AT PRO-PALESTINIAN MARCH IN DOWNTOWN TORONTO Disturbing video from Saturday's March for Palestine along Yonge Street shows a man being knocked to the ground during a physical confrontation. According to an account published by protest documentarian Caryma Sa'd, the victim, identified as Kyle, had been engaged in a heated verbal exchange with one protester when a different individual allegedly attacked him from behind. The account states that Kyle was punched in the head, dragged to the pavement, and left defenceless as others gathered around. The alleged attacker then disappeared into the crowd. Kyle was reportedly taken to hospital with a serious knee injury and was unable to walk.

If you have a will, it likely says a lot about what you've built. But does it reflect your values? Most estate plans focus on assets — who gets what, how it transfers, and the tax bill. But what if you could turn your estate tax into charity instead? We worked with a family facing a $3M estate tax bill. Together with their professionals, we turned that tax bill into a $6M charitable foundation for generations to come — all endorsed by Ottawa. Charitable donations at death can offset up to 100% of estate taxes, including taxes from the previous year. For every $2 donated, you can redirect $1 in taxes to charity. And adding on life insurance, we can replace the gift to your family using a cash-flow-neutral funding strategy. All it takes is one conversation to find out where you want your taxes to go. Reach out. There's never a meter running to get the peace of mind you deserve. Less Tax. 💔 BD"E: STUDENT KILLED, 19 INJURED IN EXPLOSION DURING SCHOOL TRIP IN NORTHERN ISRAEL A student was killed and 19 others injured, R"L, after an unexploded munition detonated during a school trip near Kibbutz Neot Mordechai, along Israel's northern border. According to preliminary reports, the explosive device is believed to have been a Hezbollah cluster bomb submunition left behind during the war. Investigators are examining reports that a student picked up the unexploded ordnance and placed it in a backpack, where it subsequently detonated. Particularly troubling, the area had reportedly been cleared by the IDF and police before the students entered. The IDF is investigating the circumstances, including the munition's origin and how it came to be in an area used for school trips. The cluster-bomb identification, backpack account, and prior clearance of the area remain preliminary findings.
