As we begin the Three Weeks, we often focus on what we can't do. But Rav Bollag shared a powerful perspective on what these days are truly about. The Maharsha (Chiddushei Aggados to Bechoros 8b), commenting on the pasuk "מקל שקד אני רואה" (Yirmiyahu 1:11), explains that the 21 days from Shivah Asar B'Tammuz until Tishah B'Av correspond to the 21 days from Rosh Hashanah until Hoshana Rabbah. What is the connection? Because a relationship grows in two ways. Sometimes through closeness—like the uplifting days of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkos. But sometimes, even more powerfully, through longing. When people who love each other are separated, the yearning itself deepens their relationship. The longing itself becomes an expression of love. That is the avodah of the Three Weeks. Every aspect of aveilus—whether refraining from music, observing the Nine Days, or mourning on Tishah B'Av—is meant to express one message: "Ribbono Shel Olam, we cannot bear to be distant from You. Hatzoloh Toronto Honours Three Long-Serving Volunteers Hatzoloh Toronto members gathered on Thursday evening to pay tribute to three longtime volunteers in recognition of their years of dedicated service. The evening included a heartfelt farewell to Yossi Kass (T62), who will be moving to Eretz Yisrael with his family later this summer, b'ezras Hashem. Members wished him a warm Tzeischem L'Shalom and expressed their appreciation for his many years of commitment to the organization. The gathering also recognized George Markus (T59) and Jessy Revivo (T66), thanking both volunteers for their longstanding dedication and countless contributions to Hatzoloh Toronto over the years. Rabbi Goldstein (T54) shared stories and memories from earlier days of the organization, including a nostalgic photograph of Yossi standing in front of one of Hatzoloh Toronto's former special events and operations support vehicles.
