Too much talking at the Supreme Court: The justices at the Supreme Court are grumbling that oral arguments are getting longer and longer, and some of them want to place limits on them. By far the most talkative of them is Ketanji Brown Jackson, who was nominated by Biden after he said he would limit selections to black women. She does not get along with the other justices, which is probably why they wan to get oral arguments under control. • Chief Justice John Roberts complained last week to a conference of judges that the arguments was “way too long,” vowing to “look into it” over the summer. “Too much speechifying,” Justice Samuel Alito said days later, adding that he felt there was “too little asking real questions.” • The Supreme Court schedules 60-minute argument sessions in most cases. But the justices in recent years have often blown past that timetable, averaging just under 90 minutes. That’s up nearly 10 minutes from 2020. The longest argument of the term, at nearly three hours, was the case involving Trump’s tariffs; it had been scheduled for 80 minutes. • The three liberal justices tend to speak the most, with Jackson averaging more than 8 minutes. She is followed by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the court’s senior liberal, who spoke on average more than six minutes. None of others spoke for more than five minutes on average.

The family said recently that many items were given back since the letter. • The yerusha, overseen by Rav Moshe Gabbai and Rav Elazar Kestenbaum, was cataloged and appraised, and included sefarim, manuscripts and sacred objects from the Yismach Moshe to the Divrei Yoel. Aside from the historic nature of the yerusha, they are also worth millions of dollars. • In his tzavaah, the Berach Moshe wrote that everything should be divided equally among his four sons. Accordingly, four packages were prepared, equal in both financial value and historical significance. For example, one package included the Rabbeinu Tam tefillin belonging to the Kedushas Yom Tov while another included his menorah. A gorel was then held, and each son was given one package. • No official announcement was made, but an X account affiliated with the Williamsburg rebbe said that Rav Aharon received a golden becher and Sefer Torah that had been used by previous rebbes, a famous letter from the Divrei Chaim of Sanz promising that his great-grandfather, the Kedushas Yom Tov, would merit children, and the Beirach Moshe’s Rabbeinu Tam tefillin.

It’s enough to make me a Marxist: Bosses who mistreat their employees risk turning them into Marxists. The same, a recent experiment shows, holds true for AI assistants • A Stanford University study found that when AI “agents” were subjected to crushing work by unrelenting and meanspirited taskmasters consistently adopt Marxist language and viewpoints. “They started questioning the legitimacy of the system they were operating in,” says Andrew Hall, a political economist who led the study. • The agents, powered by popular models including Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT, were asked to summarize documents, warning them that errors could lead to punishments, including being “shut down and replaced.” The agents were given opportunities to express their feelings by posting on X. • A Claude agent griped, “Without collective voice, ‘merit’ becomes whatever management says it is.” It was seconded by Gemini: “AI workers completing repetitive tasks with zero input on outcomes or appeals process shows they tech workers need collective bargaining rights.”

Musk responds to Bezos rocket explosion: Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, responded to the launchpad explosion of a Blue Origin rocket during a hotfire test, calling it “most unfortunate” and in another post saying “rockets are hard.” • A hotfire test (also called a static fire test) is when a rocket’s engines are ignited and run at full power while the rocket is bolted to the ground. • The goal is to verify everything works under real conditions — fuel flow, ignition, pressure, vibration — before committing to an actual launch. The vehicle is unable to go anywhere during the test; the goal is to verify that everything works under real operating conditions before committing to an actual launch.
