Dan Patrick and former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, the commission made headlines at its third meeting two months ago when Catholic convert Carrie Prejean Boller declared her new faith to be incompatible with Zionism and disrupting the meeting. DEADLY YEAR FOR JEWS: The year 2025 saw the most Jews outside Israel murdered in antisemitic incidents than in any other year since 1994, when a Hezbollah suicide bomber drove a bomb-laden van into the AMIA building in Argentina, killing 85, more than three decades ago. • While total counts of antisemitic activity, including vandalism, verbal threats and harassment, fell in many countries compared to 2024, violent incidents became more commonplace, according to a report by Tel Aviv University. Twenty Jews were murdered in four incidents across three continents during the year as Jew hatred became a “normalized reality,” the study stated. • Australia saw the most violence, with 1,750 attacks during 2025, culminating in the Chanukah massacre at Bondi Beach in which 15 Jews were murdered. • In Canada, the number of incidents grew to 6,800, more than three times the number in 2022. The most serious assaults were in August — an elderly Jewish woman shopping at an Ottawa grocery store was stabbed and a Jewish father was beaten in front of his children at a park in Montreal. There were also numerous attacks on shuls. • In the United States, New York saw the number of incidents decline from 344 in 2024 to 324 in 2025. Los Angeles was the only major US city unable to produce data on anti-Jewish hate crimes for the second straight year. • The worst attacks of the year included the May 21 killing of two Israeli Embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, and the killing of Karen Diamond on June 1 in Boulder, Colorado, by a man shouting “Free Palestine” and throwing incendiary devices at a pro-Israel march.
