Ocean County Legislators Seek Accountability As More Than 20,000 JCP&L Customers Remain Without Power Two Jersey Shore lawmakers are calling for greater accountability from Jersey Central Power & Light after severe thunderstorms over the weekend left tens of thousands of customers without electricity for days, with more than 20,000 still without power as of this afternoon. As of 1pm, 20,654 JCP&L customers remained without electricity, according to the utility’s outage map, several days after Friday’s storms knocked out service to more than 200,000 customers statewide. Assemblymen Greg McGuckin and Paul Kanitra, both Ocean County Republicans, said the prolonged outages are part of a recurring pattern they say has disproportionately affected Monmouth and Ocean counties for years. 3:42 PMCaught on 🎥 Roof Partially Collapses At Vacant Wall Township Motel Following Severe Storms A portion of the roof of the Economy Inn in Wall Township partially collapsed Wednesday morning after sustaining damage during last week’s severe storms, authorities said. At approximately 7:27 a.m., officers from the Wall Township Police Department, along with the South Wall Fire Department, EMS, and the Wall Township Building Department, responded to the Economy Inn at 2035 State Highway 35 after receiving reports that part of the building’s exterior façade had fallen and that additional sections appeared unstable. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered an active partial roof collapse caused by damage from the severe weather over the past week. While crews were assessing the structure, a second section of the roof also collapsed. Crews from New Jersey Natural Gas and Jersey Central Power & Light responded to safely disconnect utility services to the building. Authorities said the motel was vacant at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported. Police established a safety perimeter around the building and surrounding parking lot using tape, cones, and barricades to keep the public away from the unstable structure. Township officials have notified the property owner and will continue monitoring the site to ensure the damaged building is properly secured and any hazards are addressed. New Jersey Attorney General Davenport Joins 49-State Coalition Seeking Stronger FCC Robocall Rules New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport is urging federal regulators to adopt tougher rules aimed at cutting off scammers’ access to legitimate telephone numbers, saying stronger safeguards are needed to stem billions of illegal robocalls and protect consumers from fraud. Davenport on Tuesday co-led a bipartisan coalition of 49 attorneys general in submitting recommendations to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), calling for stricter oversight of companies that purchase and distribute telephone numbers. The proposal is intended to make it more difficult for scammers to obtain legitimate phone numbers that can be used to disguise fraudulent calls and text messages. “Robocalls aren’t just annoying and illegal. They expose New Jerseyans to rampant scams and fraud that threaten their life’s savings,” Davenport said in a statement. “While states like New Jersey will continue to enforce the law to hold scammers accountable, preventing unwanted robocalls in the first place requires meaningful action from the FCC.” READ MORE ⤵️ https://thelakewoodscoop.com/news/new-jersey-attorney-general-davenport-joins-49-state-coalition-seeking-stronger-fcc-robocall-rules/ ~

Opinion: Lakewood Verizon Customers Deserve Refunds Until Service Improves For months, Lakewood residents have voiced the same complaint: Verizon Wireless service throughout our community has become increasingly unreliable. Calls fail to connect, data speeds slow to a crawl, and in many areas, customers struggle to maintain even a basic connection. Residents have reported these issues directly to Verizon and have raised concerns with township officials, yet there has been little meaningful communication from the company and no clear indication of when, or even if, the problems will be resolved. Even the Mayor called them out about the horrible service, to no avail. Verizon markets itself as a premium wireless provider, and its customers pay premium prices with the expectation of receiving dependable service. When that service consistently falls below a reasonable standard for an extended period of time, customers deserve more than apologies. They deserve answers, accountability, and appropriate compensation. READ MORE ⤵️ https://thelakewoodscoop.com/news/opinion-lakewood-verizon-customers-deserve-refunds-until-service-improves/ ~

Letter: Trust Your Instincts I would like to share a personal experience in the hope that it may help someone else. A few months ago, after being married for a couple of years, I went to speak with a Rav regarding a Shalom Bayis matter. Baruch Hashem, everything is okay today, but at the time I was looking for guidance on an issue that I felt was important. Instead of leaving with clarity and reassurance, I left feeling deeply uncomfortable and honestly disgusted. During the conversation, I was asked questions that I felt had nothing to do with the issue I had come to discuss and that I found deeply personal and completely inappropriate. I walked out feeling shaken and regretting that I had gone. READ MORE ⤵️ https://thelakewoodscoop.com/news/letter-trust-your-instincts/ ~

Letter: Let’s Make Bein Hazmanim Safe Again To the Editor, As bein hazmanim approaches once again, I want to raise an issue that deserves more attention from our community: the need for greater awareness and preparation around safety during this break. For so many bochurim and yungeleit, bein hazmanim is a welcome change of pace after months of intensive sedorim. But that same shift — less structure, more travel, later nights, unfamiliar activities — is exactly what makes this period higher-risk. JUST IN: U.S. Set To Vote On Bill Establishing Permanent Daylight Saving Time The U.S. House is expected to vote this week, perhaps as soon as Tuesday, on legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide, reviving a long-running effort to eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes that has drawn bipartisan support and backing from President Donald Trump. The House vote comes after the measure cleared the House Rules Committee by a 6-4 vote and the House Energy and Commerce Committee in May on a 48-1 bipartisan vote as part of a broader transportation package. If approved, the legislation would establish daylight saving time as the year-round national standard while allowing states to opt out by enacting legislation to remain on permanent standard time. States that currently do not observe daylight saving time, such as Hawaii and most of Arizona, would not be required to adopt it.
