NEW: Lakewood, Toms River Lead Ocean County In ICE Arrests With 235 Each Since January 2025 Federal immigration authorities arrested a total of 235 people in Lakewood between January 20, 2025 and August 2026, according to new federal data obtained by TLS, making Lakewood one of the more active locations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Ocean County during President Donald Trump’s second term. The individuals arrested originated primarily from eight countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Türkiye. The 235 arrests in Lakewood was matched by neighboring Toms River, which saw an equal amount of arrests. However, those two towns far exceeded those in neighboring Ocean County communities, where federal data show ICE arrested 60 people in Jackson Township and just two in Manchester Township during the same period. Manchester Man Charged After Dog Dies in Hot Car A 67-year-old Manchester man was charged with animal cruelty after he left a dog unattended inside a car for an extended period of time, resulting in the dog’s death. Under the program, individual taxpayers can receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for contributions to qualifying Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs), while married couples filing jointly can receive a credit of up to $3,400. The credit is tied to qualifying contributions to SGOs that provide scholarships for eligible K-12 educational expenses. Participation by individual states is voluntary. The IRS says that 30 states have already made an advance election to participate in the program for 2027, but Governor Sherrill has not yet made a decison. 📸 Lakewood Completes Another Round of Infrastructure Improvements The Lakewood Township has completed another round of roadway and infrastructure improvements, taking advantage of reduced traffic during the Jewish holiday season to minimize disruptions for both residents and motorists. Throughout September and early October, crews worked efficiently to complete several major projects, expanding on the major infrastructure projects that were completed over the summer. The latest roadwork follows extensive underground infrastructure improvements by New Jersey American Water (NJAW) and drainage improvements by the Township. Among the projects are 2nd Street, which is now repaved and restriped from North Lake Drive to Park Avenue. Based on recommendations from the Lakewood Police Department and Township Engineers, the striping was reconfigured to add nine parking spots to the historic commercial district. Additionally, Monmouth Avenue was repaved and restriped from 1st Street to 2nd Street. In other areas of Lakewood, sections of Gudz Road in the New Central Avenue area, and sections of Claire Drive and Princewood Avenue and surrounding streets in the Hearthstone area, were also repaved and restriped following underground improvements.
